Not too late to introduce myself

Posted by Carlosjrf, Feb 8, 2012.

Hello everyone, I'm Carlos, originally from Puerto Rico, transplanted to Atlanta, GA for work. Thanks to God, me and my wife have good jobs now and can treat ourselves to some things we couldnt before. I've liked wine for soem time, but never had the money to do it. Also, my wife doesnt drink, although evry now and then she could drink a little bit of a white. Anyway, singed up here to learn what I need to know what to like and why and to cnnect with other people and share experiences. I recently discovered that there are wineries in Georgia so I will be visiting and tasting their wines, and learn from them as much as I can. Look forward to your replies to my questions. (already poted a couple before noticing the introduction  category)

Welcome Carlos, I can relate about the wife only liking white once in awhile...

Best advice is to taste as many different wines as you can from all over. Try to find tastings or events where you can taste a bunch of wines and get a better idea of what's out there and what you like before buying too many bottles for your own collectionor drinking. Always helps to find others nearby, or if not - on-line, who have the same interests if you're not quite getting the enthusiasm to explore your newfound hobby at home.

Welcome, Carlos. And congrats on getting to a place where you can take your wine explorations to a different level.

Obviously try all sorts of wine from outside Georgia, but do let us know how your explorations at local wineries go. And bring any and all questions here. I'm sure you'll get plenty of answers.

Hi Carlos,  While most of the wines you find in stores and restaurants are made in regions other than Georgia, it is always fun to visit wineries in person to try their wines.  I also live in Atlanta and travel up to North Georgia a few times a year to have some wine fun.  Our absolute favorite winery is Frogtown (near Dahlonega).  Other fun places to visit are Wolf Mountain (can be very crowded though) and Montaluce (they are new to making wine but have a wonderful restaurant on site).  Have fun!
