New to wine and hope this website helps!

Hi everyone!
just thought i'd take a minute and introduce myself on here! I'm a recent college grad and becoming more interested in wine and less interested in keg stands and natty light..lol. I'm living in a small college town in Ohio, so not a huge wine/cultural area if you get what i'm saying. Does anyone have any suggestions for cheap wines or where i should start with learning about wine? I really enjoy it but it's a bit overwhelming with all the information. Also, any decently priced wines would be awesome!
This website seems really cool..hope it helps me discover some good wines!!!

Welcome to Snooth! Sorry to hear that you're out growing keg stands ... brings back memories. :-)

As for where to start, that is a tough question. Generally speaking, people start with something with a little sweet and move forward. However, since you're here, you've probably had some experience with wine. So ... what do you like? What have you been drinking?

Lastly, and you've heard this before, the best way to learn things is ask questions. A lot of knowledgeable people here to answer questions.

Welcome Neuf!

The world of wine is broad and deep. One of the best ways to really get started is by assembling a mixed case of wine from as many different countries/grapes/producers as you can. There are great values wines being produced in every corner of the globe so that shouldn't be too hard.

The next key is to taste each wine, preferably over 2 night in order to give the wine the best chance to reveal it's hidden secrets but you'll figure out which wines are really good pretty quickly. They're the ones that don't make it to night 2!

And then you have to record your impressions, by entering you tasting notes on Snooth for example. By keeping a record of what you liked and why you liked it you can start developing your palate and figure out where to best focus your energies.

Please let us know what you've liked so far.

Looking forward to hearing more from you!

Greg -- good idea, I'm going to play that game sometime. I can think of a hundred worse ways to spend a couple of nights off the top of my head.

@neuf, welcome to Snooth!

Greg has a great idea with mixed case ... also, take a look at the online vendors for variety. Snooth can also help you locate local retailers that may have wine tastings to help you learn things.

I am not sure if you noticed Greg's post on 0.01 shipping that AmericanWinery. There are s some great deals and it can give you exposure to a lot of different wines: http://www.snooth.com/talk/#http://...
