Hey everyone, Im Lio and Im 19. I fell in love with wine about two years ago through the restaurants I was working at in Denver, Colorado, Piatti Locali and Texas de Brazil. Both of these fantastic and authentic restaurants featured exquisite wine lists featuring an amazing array of wines from all over the world. Through working as a server and a cook, I began to discover the extraordinary world of wine and how much it tied into my passion of cooking. Now I feel and know that my two greatest passions are wine and food, which essentially break down to become one essence- flavor. I would love to continue to learn about wine through this website as another key to knowledge so if you have any suggestions on wines I should try, read about, buy or what not, please let me know. Also, I plan to visit Spain in August and I have a gist on where I plan to go for food and wine but if you have any suggestions, they would be great to add to my things to do list. Thanks.

Hi Lio,
I worked in kitchens for 16 years, so much stress but sooooo much fun. I miss cooking professionally at times. Of course all that exposure to food, exotic ingredients, and wines prepared me well for my love affair with wine. We'll be working on getting new wine and food matching ideas together over the next few months and I look forward to your input!

Hello, welcome aboard. I've been working in restaurants and private dining now for the last four years here in NYC. Looks like we both got bitten by the same bug. See you around the board, feel free to bounce any ideas off me for wine and food.

Welcome, Lio, you've come to a good place for learning and sharing! What's your current thinking regarding places to visit in Spain?
Oh, and if this is a duplicate message I apologize. I just sent a reply a moment ago but it didn't show up on my screen as being sent, so I'm trying again. Sometimes there's a bit of lag in the messages registering...

Thanks a lot you guys for your incouragement and warm welcoming. I look forward to sharing ideas and knowledge of wine with you.
That is really cool that you worked in restaurants for 16 years gregory. That is a lot of crazy experience in the kitchen but lots of fun too.
NYC is definetely a place I hope to reach in my career. The main restaurants Id love to work at would be Daniels, Babbo, and Jean Georges. Id love to share information on food and wine.
I plan to backpack throughout Spain, beginning in Madrid, going through the entire wine country. I need to set up a concrete plan soon. I will post it when I do.
I hope that my passion for wine will continue to expand along with my knowledge and my palate. Thanks you guys!

In a car I can usually hit about 6-10 wineries in a day. You better plan for about 2 months :)
btw, welcome to the site!

Spent six days in Castilla y Leon two weeks ago and that's not nearly enough time to cover just those regions. My suggestion is not to try to "do" all of Spain any more than you might do France. Gallicia and Yecla are as different as Champagne and the Rhone.
That said, you can contact some of the wineries you like and see if they will meet you. Nothing like tasting a wine at its point of origin. Best luck!
