Introduce Yourself

My Introduction
Posted by corskier, May 1.

Thought I'd finally get around to introducing myself, Lord knows I've been lurking around here long enough. I have the privilege of being cellarmaster at one of the best wineries in Southern Oregon, RoxyAnn Winery. It's much warmer and drier down here than up in the Willamette, and we grow Bordeaux and Rhone varietals down here, as well as some Tempranillo for good measure. We also buy our grapes for our biggest white wine production, our Pinot Gris, from local vineyards. I'm planning on going back to school in the not too distant future for Chem/Enology and am interested in all assets of wine production/consumption. Hope you all have a great Friday!

Hey Corskier! Great to see ya here. I've been up to Willamette but not down in your area. Looks like I should head to Southern Oregon for some tasting. I knew that Domaine Serene sources grapes there for their Rockblock label. How many other wineries are there around you?

Hi Jonn, funny you should mention the Rockblock, our assistant winemaker just sourced what used to be Rockblock for his inaugural Syrah. It'll be called F Squared when it comes out, look for it in 2010ish. Now I think they buy grapes from Del Rio. Del Rio also makes some great wines, as does Wooldridge Creek, Abacela, Troon, and a myriad of other small producers that don't distribute much farther than Southern Oregon itself. We also make wine for several custom crush clients including: Velocity Cellars, Red Lily, Rocky Knoll, Daisy Creek, Carpenter Hill and Volcano Vineyards.

And Hugo, we don't distribute farther than our state boundaries currently, although there are loads of great wineries that distribute internationally from Oregon. Look for Pinot Noir from the Willamette Valley. If you can get them in Brasil they're probably owned by an international luxury goods company or just make great wine. Either way, it'll be expensive, but sometimes worth it! Domaine Drouhin usually makes some good Pinot and you might be able to get some of it down there. And I'm sure it's a stretch, but look for anything by Patricia Green. Brilliant winemaker.
