- Details for Mx Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard 2006
Has anyone out there tried this wine?! If not, we will be pouring it on September 27, in Napa at the movie premiere of the re-make of Sideways!

I have barrel tasted the 2008 at the winery and can assure you it will be equally as outstanding.
Winemaker's Comments:
The dark, ruby hue precedes a fragrant nose of summer raspberries, cassis, blackberries and subtle smoke, all echoed across the palate. It is full-bodied with plush mouthfeel, polite tannins, and a long, satisfying finish.
I work as the winemaker's sole intern for the 2009 Harvest. We are a very small operation--Margaux Singleton (MX) and myself! If you are looking for a delicious and obscure wine, this is it. The Beckstoffer vineyard crew is outstanding and keeps a close eye on the vines. The clusters are meticulously monitored and each grape is checked to make sure it is up to the standard.
Despite the effort put into each bottle, this is the low end of the price range for Beckstoffer To Kalon Cabernet. This vintage is unique in that it is the first time anyone has had access to ALL of the clonal and varietal components that exist at To Kalon and have combined it into one wine.
Please let us know what you think if you have tasted it! If not, come to the movie premiere in Napa this Sunday and try it then...

I have not tried it but I will say that in my opinion To Kalon is the greatest Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard in the US. A true great growth.
I would love to try it.
Good luck with your event.

Haven't had your wine yet, but have had some good ones from To Kalon grapes before , that is sure. Will look forward to yours.
Am wondering, though, what is this about a Sideways remake? IMDB has no real info, and I'm curious about the thinking regarding a remake, so soon, of a well-made modern classic. Any light you can throw on this?

Thank you for your interest. I can share with you what little I know about the movie at this time...
The movie is being re-made by a Japanese filmmaker, using four very popular Japanese actors. Unlike the original Sideways that takes place in the Santa Ynez Valley, this movie was filmed largely here in Napa Valley. The lead actor in this movie moves here from Japan as part of an internship. From what I hear, this version will be more "cutesy" and the characters will not be as odd and despicable, as they were in the original (which I agree was a well-made modern classic).
As of now, the producers were still trying to get the movie distributed to a larger audience (ie. Fox Movies). Nevertheless, I hear it is also well-made and look forward to seeing some familiar places around Napa! All of the wineries seen in the movie were asked to pour at this event. This will be the final movie played at the film festival this week.
Ok, that's about all I know for now!!
Take care,
Aaron

Aaron, thanks for the info, but how shall I put this? Uh... sounds like some really dodgy schlock, though I suppose miracles are possible, and will be interested to hear back from you after you view the film. Unfortunately, the Japanese film industry these days does this kind of film about as well as the producers over here do grape-based wine.

Andy Beckstoffer is a real vineyard pioneer and the To Kalon is an extraordinary vineyard. Best wishes and I hope to have a chance to taste!
