Mr. President's choice :)

Posted by ApelsecS, May 25.

Hi everyone,

So let's post here some wine that presidents drink all over the world. Please leave links to original sources and your notes if you tasted em. Yeh, who cares... but isn't it fun to track such things in one place? We could build a list later...

I'll begin with Putin and Macron's lunch on May 24 2018 in Saint Petersburg at Konstantin Palace:

So, according to this photo of menu by RiaNews they had 2014 Merlot and Chardonnay "Usadba Divnomorskoe". It's about 35-40$. Haven't tasted yet.

...I wonder why it's written in Russian, how Macron would read it?))

As Putin was the host in his own country he would obviously promote/showcase wines from his own country. I am sure that if you got invited to an official dinner at the White House you would be served American wines. However the third President,Thomas Jefferson had a penchant for Chateau Haut-Brion and President Nixon was always served Chateau Margaux at such functions although his guests were not. The waiter had instructions to cover the label with a napkin as he poured it into the president's glass.Personally,I reckon that the best place to get invited for dinner would be Buckingham Palace as Her Majesty has one of the world's best wine cellars. When Barak Obama came she served Domaine Romanee Conti amoung other fine wines to her 200 guests

Trump just served Macron the Domaine Serene Evenstad Reserve. Someone thought it would be nice to have Dijon clones growing in Oregon soil as a symbol of cooperation.

Duncan, Greg, thanks - these are very interesting details! If you guys have some more specific information on year and links (on snooth?) that would be nice to have for the record.

Regarding Putin's wine above - I found interesting detail that he selected year 2014 because it was the year of first sanctions against Russia in modern history.

Does anyone have info on African leaders?
