Firstly, I think everyone you should break the mould to start. If you dont like red wine, whats the point of cabernet sauvignon with steak? However, here's a few I like, or have heard and want to try:
- Champagne with Marzipan: bubbles and acidity cut through and complement the sweet almond taste well. Plus you feel as decadant as that French Queen who said "let them eat cake"
- Off dry Alsatian wine with Thai food: sweet and spicy food with slightly sweet and oily wine, pairs very well
- Port and Cigars: just dont eat the cigars
Basically any excuse to bring out a off dry or even a dessert wine mid meal usually means its exotic (sauternes and pate for example) - and i'm a fan of that!

@Philip - M.A. wasn't French - she was an ill-bred Austrian. No wonder she said (actually she didn't) something so dumb.
How about these - including Sauternes for breakfast!
-Champagne and buttered popcorn (some suggest truffle oil instead).
-NYC Hot Dogs with Ribera del Duero
-Donuts (preferably hot glazed ones from Krispy Kreme) and Sauternes (d'Yquem, of course).
