More SPAM these days

Posted by dmcker, Dec 9, 2010.

Got this in my mailbox:

rossygg has left you a message on Snooth!
"Hello dear, Greetings to you,My name is Rose, i view your profile in this site and i decide to communicate with you, it will be my pleasure if you will be my friend, i wish ifyou will respond to my mail box so that i will tell you more about my self.and sent you my photo,i hope to hear from you. yours Rose. Email miss_rossyggg16@yahoo.com

Is it just me, or is spam on a steady upswing over the past year? One of the costs of Snooth success, I suppose, but it'd be nice if some focus by site admins went towards filtering...

My concern is how do they send a message without being a friend?

It should not be to hard to fix that issue on the site

My concern is whether she's hot.  Allowances can be made after all.

But D is right - there's not only more, it's stupider.  I'm really expecting to see one of those Nigerian bank letters any day now.  Seems like there's at least a weekly post about something irrelevant, sometimes starting a new thread but often as not, just crapping on a thread that has some legs.  What's up guys and gals??

No response from Mark et al.? Not even poor, overworked Greg DP?  ;-)

I'm with @GregT ... if she is hot, she can be my friend. :-)

Let's take this as a sign of success.  Although, I'm a little disappointed that 'Rose' contacted you clowns in addition to me! ;-)   just kidding guys.

I wonder if the women of this site get messages from 'Randy' or 'Jose'?

GregT & HJ

I think you are both either delusional or excessively hopeful.

The people who send these scams do seem to be able to penetrate firewalls.  We will get a batch of them here at work, the techo's work out how to block them, then a few months later another batch, and "the beat goes on"

@Stephen ... really, you thought Greg & I were serious?  C'mon now, really? :-)

I'm one of those 'technos' you speak of and I find these emails mildly amusing but mostly annoying.  The ability to send a message to a 'non-friend' is not restricted here.  If you think it should, ping the Snooth guys.

Off Course not, but it sounded like a good idea at the time

At least I learnt something new, in that I thought messages were between friends

I'm paying attention, and trying to kill as much spam as I can.

If anybody has suggestions or requests, don't hesitate to bring them to my attention!
