More Aussie wine

Posted by spikedc, May 24, 2011.

Went back to my local retailer to get some more Kangarilla Road Shiraz (which i really enjoyed).

Whilst i was there i tried some Cape Mentelle Merlot 2007 and The Lodge Shiraz 2008/09 Jim Barry lovely wines, ended up with these as well.

Getting a real taste for Aussie reds.

Jim Barry Lodge Hill is a good Clare Valley Shiraz.  The Barry family are good friends and Peter Barry spends a lot of time in the UK marketing his wine [as he does in the US]

Cape Mentelle is owned by LVMH and is based in Margaret River, their wines a re generally excellent and they make very good Chardonnay and Cabernet Blends, I have not tried the Merlot before.

Glad you like them.

If you see any Jim Barry rieslings they are worth a look. Peter Barry's sons also make a great Riesling under the Clos Clare brand .

Stephen,

Finished off another bottle of Kangarilla Road 2009 Shiraz Last night with dinner. Fantastic wine, really enjoyed it. Easily the best Shiraz in the £10 price range i've tasted.  Please pass on my compliments to your part owner friend.

The 2Up Kangarilla Road was also excellent at only £6.99

Chapel Hill is a very good wine, has made a come back in last 3 vintages after a flat patch in the early 2000's

Michael Fragos has transformed the winemaking and the 2008 Vicar is a stunning McLaren Vale Shiraz

Hi Stephen, good to hear from you again.

Just a quick mention of a cheap Shiraz i tasted last weekend recommended by a friend  'Blaxland Estate Shiraz 2010' surprised how nice it was for the price. (£4.50 around $7 )

Blaxland is from Kingston Estate in the SA Riverland - I think this might be a Tesco brand they make

Hi! Have you tried any of the De Bortoli family's wines? They are an Australian family-owned winery and they offer some great wines at affordable prices.  Cheers!
