Can I come to whereever you are? I'll be lucky if I get even one of the things you listed...I will however get some nice corndogs and cotton candy...they don't usually match well with wine, but make for a good family outing

Yeah, wow - I think some nice Rieslings, a little sun and some reading. I'm itching for a steak so maybe a cab or two as well.

German Riesling sounds like a good idea, along with a Willamette Valley Pinot in honor of open house weekend that I wish I was going to, and maybe break open a Bordeaux. Oh... I guess I'll have some food as well.

Not on Memorial day because, believe it or not, I'm working. But on this coming Wednesday I'm hosting a wines of the Veneto with a Suave, Valpolicella and Amarone all paired against Northern italian cuisine. I guess in a way these are my Memorial week wines.

Philip, I view Memorial Day weekend as a chance to get *away* from computer geek humor! ;-)
Buckets of crisp whites (chardonnays, sauvignon blancs and yes, Greg, even muscadets this time) with mollusks, crustaceans and other seafood alongside the beach. Baby abalone on the barby are remarkably yummy! Though probably Sake and sushi, tropical cocktails, port and cigars, and, yes, even beer will enter the mix at some point. It's gonna be a loooong weekend... :-)

Tried something new at a restaurant we've always been meaning to go to. Sabur 'exotic Mediteranian' cuisine in Somerville, MA. I had lamb, Jennie had mousaka. The wine was a Macedonian Vranec. One of the best food pairings I've had in a while. The server said it goes well with lamb because that's all they eat in Macedonia! New varietal and new region for me. http://www.snooth.com/wine/popova-kula-macedonian-vranec-2005/

Philip, no it's not in the Japanese context. They just had a very lengthy holiday at the beginning of this month called 'Golden Week'. For the end of this week, I'll have houseguests, some who work at the American Embassy and do observe the holiday, and am intending to take some time at my place in Shimoda on the southern tip of the Izu Peninsula and make it something like a Friday morn-thru-Tuesday eve break. Lots of sun and seafood and wine and good company...

I spent Sunday checking out the Stonington and Jonathan Edwards wineries here in CT - some great wines, particularly the Napa Valley Zin and Sierra Foothills Zin at Jonathan Edwards. Today - it'll be a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc to pair with grilled shrimp and chicken.
