I haven't been to Hong Kong, but I'm looking forward to hearing what people have to say. I've seen quite a bit of press about the burgeoning wine scene there -- there's an article in the new Food & Wine that has a few suggestions.

Go to Prince's Building,

to the new bar ALFIE'S BY KEE..they  carry a superb wine-list indeed!

You would like it!

I also went to a new restaurant there called AMUSE BOUCHE.

Amuse Bouche is in Wan Chai  852 2891 3666.

It is not very far from the Police Station.

Gosh I should be spending more time in Hong Kong.

Although not exactly wine bars, Caprice and L'Atelier de Joel Robuchon both had really friendly, sharing, and knowledgeable wine staff when I was last in HK. I would imagine that at L'Atelier they would be amenable to offering small wine tastes with each small dish.

Try forming a tasting group with your classmates and soliciting the wine staff at Berry Brothers or Altaya for some archetypal suggestions of each wine style/varietal as well.

My dears, ALFIE'S BY KEE is connected to Berry Bros. and in collaboration with Alfred Dunhill....British fare is actually served and the wine list is great.

While the AMUSE BOUCHE is the result of the efforts of Sommelier Kent Wong and another experienced wine and food man.

Their mark-up on wine is low compared to many places in Hong-kong

where the mark-up is around 400% and more.

TASTINGS WINE BAR is on Wellington Street  and  they  just  did a  special charity tasting for the Women's Foundation.

You may wish to ask The French Embassy and Consulate in Hong Kong and Macau as they usually have magazines and media material promoting wines and venues etc.

Good Luck!

Ponti Food and Wine Cellar www.ponti-fwc.com have regular tastings. Watson’s Wines (Queen’s Rd, D’Aigular St, Great store at Pacific Place) have tutored tasting events as well as putting out wines for free tasting at least one night a week. Simon Tam runs tastings at his Independent Wine Centre www.iwinecentre.com/en/index.php. The Riedel Room at Q88 Wine Bar in the Marriott is an excellent place to taste premium wines www.jwmarriotthk.com/en/wb02_riedel.htm  Wagyu restaurant on Staunton St has the best of the Antipodes with some unusual offerings.  Have fun!

Don't forget the South China Morning Post Wine Club with its regular tasting events www.promotions.scmp.com/wine/wineclub_intro.asp

Amour's suggestion of Tastings in the Yuen Yick building, Wellington St, is probably your overall best bet. It has an Enomatic system to allow some 150 or more wines from all over the world to be open at any one time. You can get as little as a 25ml tasting measure and they change the wines regularly. Brilliant!
