iPhone Application

Posted by tabednar, Nov 18, 2008.

This may have already been suggested but I think Snooth would increase its membership if they offered an free iPhone application that allowed you to access your account that way. Just an idea.

We are all eagerly awaiting this! :) Heck, I'd even pay; was looking into wine spectators and it seemed a bit pricey. I just bought corkz app and was very disappointed.

Shhh! It's in final testing now and the word on the street is that Mark is going to break down and buy an iPhone to finish it up. Also cause he wants one.

Who said that!

I just discovered the GPS feature on my blackberry is disabled - apparently I know live in the middle of a freeway. Mark, I may follow you to the apple store.

Funny you should ask about this, and on this day...

If anyone wants a special secret testing url (and they promise not to disclose or talk about it for the next 10 days) then message me through the site.

Adam, I'm going today -- wish me and my wallet luck. I feel like I'm joining some kind of club.

You are, maybe Philip will teach you the secret handshake! I will say, now should be a good time to buy. When I bought, I waited in line for about 4 hours to get it. When my husband got his a couple weeks ago it took 10 min from the time we entered the store until we were walking out, fastest phone purchase ever! Good luck!

Good luck with your purchase Mark. I got my 3 days ago and now I not sure how I functioned without it. I only get on my computer to check snooth. I know I am a new member but snooth is just as addicting as the phone. I can't wait to see what you guys have coming. I am sure it will be great!

Mark, good luck at the apple store. I think the biggest thing stopping me from getting an iphone is the warm embrace of Verizon.

Thanks all! I got my phone now and am hard at work doing some final testing on the iPhone app. Can't wait for the unveiling!

Mark, I'm looking forward to the feature by feature blackberry vs iphone comparison.

Overall happy with this app, but this is where I make a comment about maybe making it better. I would like "my wines" attached to it because when I am out I like to check what I already have at home in the cellar. I thought I would be able to do that from Safari, but with it automatically redirecting me, I can't. Anyone else feel this way?

Again, overall - GREAT JOB and I will use it a lot! Thanks everybody at snooth!

Adam -- my diagnosis is that the iPhone's email features are primitive compared to the Blackberry. Features like cut and paste, automatic email checking, marking groups of emails as read or for deletion, full (or half) keyboard, as well as the quick trackball interface make emailing on the berry a snap.

The iPhone is much more fun to use and is far better for the web. Also the iPod, camera, and iTunes, and the apps make it a better device overall. But the emailing features are severely lacking. Nothing new with my review there, i think...

Ocean -- that's a good point. Having a fully fleshed out My Wines section for the app is going right on the todo list. Glad you enjoyed it!

Thanks, Mark. You're right, nothing new there, but it helps to have new people remind me of these facts every few months to calm down my urge to ditch Verizon and get an iphone.

@Mark ... the BlackBerry Bold has a much better browser than previous versions. In fact, it _almost_ as good as safari on the iPhone. I can actually view the Snooth website on the Bold and make use of it.

That's very cool, John -- I'd love to play with one. And to be honest I'll be back to Blackberry within a couple of years if they continue to be competitive and Apple doesn't get with the email program.

Mark, minor nit: "automatic email checking, marking groups of emails as read or for deletion" -- the iPhone can half do the first of those and completely do the second (that's what that Edit button is for).

Not that I disagree with your overall thesis, of course.

OK, I am new to the Snooth website and really enjoying the depth of information and features of the full website.

I was really hoping for similar functionality via my iPhone, but have not found the iPhone interface to be nearly as rich. I have been searching around for details on the iPhone website interface (and iPhone App). This thread is about a year old now and I notice the following comment from Mark:

Ocean -- that's a good point. Having a fully fleshed out My Wines section for the app is going right on the todo list. Glad you enjoyed it!

My question is - When are you going to get to this item on your To Do list?

I also have some feedback on the iPhone interface v. Full Website.

The announcement of the iPhone web interface says that the iPhone interface and full website will be "seemlessly integrated." My experience so far has been that they are two different interfaces as well as two different databases of information.

For example, I am logged in to the Classic Snooth Website on my iPhone. Then I do a search and I get flipped over to the iPhone interface. Once in the iPhone interface I have to log in again. This looks like user Sessions are being managed separately for the Classic Web Interface v. the iPhone Web Interface.

My Wish List through the iPhone Web Interface does not match my Wishlist through Classic Snooth Website. The iPhone Web Interface only shows 20 items. The items added to my Wishlist via the IPhone interface do not always show up on my Wishlist via the Classic Snooth Web Interface and vice versa. Same for comments I enter about my wines.

Are there any plans to connect the two sites? I would really like to be able to manage my Cellar and Wish List through my iPhone when away from home as well as through the regular web interface when I am at home.

I have provided similar feedback through the "contact us" page and have not heard anything back. I'm really impressed with the amount of information available and the interaction between the members of the Snooth Community. I hope that you will take this feedback and use it to make the site even more useful than it already is.

Thanks

Hi Vellovino. Thanks for the report. I've located the bug. It's going to take a day or two to fix, and I'll post here when that's complete. At that point you should have all of your wishlist items on both the Snooth site and the iPhone.
