International Shipping - Failla Wine

Posted by RozB, Aug 1, 2008.

Hi all,

I'm brand new to Snooth, but I already have a question :-)

I've just got back from an amazing trip to California where I fell in love with the wine... However since getting home to the UK I've found it very hard to find anyone willing to ship the 2 bottles that made me happiest (Failla 2006 Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir and Failla 2005 Santa Rita Hills Pinot Noir).

Does anyone know of a distributor who I could contact to order these? It feels like I've tried everywhere... I've even tried Failla directly but to no avail :-(

Any ideas are much appreciated.

Many thanks

Hi there RozB! I work part time at a small winery and the biggest challenge is that there are tarrifs and laws that permit wineries from sending wine internationally directly to a consumer. In fact, it is next to impossible for even a private citizen to accomplish the same.

The best I can think of is to look up an importer in the UK that will work with a distributor in the US to acquire the wine for you. That being said, I would expect that to be EXTREMELY expensive. You would probably cheaper to actually return to the US, buy a bunch of the wine and take it back with you. You can get shipping packaging for the wine and check it as luggage.

Sorry, I don't have much better news ... anyone else had success?

Hey RozB,
The California distributor for Failla is Chambers and Chambers Wine Merchants - 415-642-5500. They probably won't be able to ship the wine directly to you, but they may have an idea of a retailer that is able to do that sort of thing or may know of a distributor on the East Coast that can help you out. Keep in mind that Failla wines are highly sought after, so just tracking bottles down in the first place is tough.

Thank you both. I'll try Chambers and Chambers and let you know how I go!

However I think that HondaJohn's idea of another trip to the US sounds like the most fun option!!

Many thanks

@RozB ... I may not have the best options but I try to have the most fun options.

I've just found out a friend of mine will be in Princeton NJ at the beginning of next week... Maybe he could bring some Failla Pinot back for me... Do you have any suggestions as to who I should order through? (after no options at all there seem to be so many!!)

@RozB ... call the winery, place an order and have it shipped to the hotel/location your friend is staying at. It usually takes a few days for the order to get there with standard shipping. You're friend will have to check it as luggage but the shipping boxes that the wineries use are good for that.

@RozB ... did you get the wine through your friend?
