If you like non-oaky chards, Russian river Pinots, and Old vine Zins...

But hate paying $25 or more for them what do you do? This question was recently posed to me and my first thoughts went to the great producers in Sonoma who are focused on quality wine at value pricing.

My short list included:

Kunde
Pedroncelli
Alexander Valley Vineyards
Dry Creek Vineyards

Anyone else have some suggestions?

Sebastiani - I thought was pretty good, they have a full range of wines and prices.
Cline - also has a good selection of Zins
VJB - was a great find during our tour, the tasting room in Kenwood was fantastic with ranges of wines and also prices.
Schug - was one of my favorites for an unoaked Chard but it starts to climb beyond the $25 mark.

Four Vines can cover two out of three!
Four Vines "Naked Chardonnay" (no oak at all) and
Four Vines Old Vine Zinfandel, both about $12.
also
Klinker Brick Old Vine Zin at about $14-16

Macchia has some great Zins as well most of them below the $25 mark. I suggest their Mischevious for about $18.

The current Trader Joes Reserve old vines Zinfandel that is made by Mazzocco Vineyards fits your bill and is quite tasty at $10.00/bottle. Here's one I found on my recent trip to the Napa/Sonoma wine country: http://www.zahtilavineyards.com/scripts/winepg.cfm/_/3/2005/Dry%20Creek,%20Zinfandel/ I found this wine for $15.00 in Calistoga, but it's worth the full retail price.
