How much spam cleaning is worth it?

Posted by GregT, Feb 9, 2017.

The past few times I've stopped bym before I could post anything, I had to spend time cleaning spam. Six posts tonight, twenty a couple days ago, nine the other night - it's irritating that there seems to be no effort to prevent it.

If I didn't like you guys, I'd just bag it and not stop by at all.

Some of you have done a lot more housekeeping than I have. Exponentially more.

What's the cut-off point going to be?

For me, if I see a whole page, I'm not going to spend the time clearing it. And it's not like a simple brush off - there's that dumb-ass message warning you that the poster might not be able to post any more. Are we really 100 percent absolutely completely unquestionably certain that we want to ban the spammer?

Uh. . .

I want to learn about that new eyelid cream and I appreciate the fact that all the pertinent info is in a language that I not only don't speak, I don't even recognize.

What does this post have to do with wine you ask?

I'm drinking a Barolo. Now it's about wine.

Hopefully Fox has made progress on his alternative.

I seldom encounter the spam because some benevolent person has cleared my path.  I still pop in for the reason Greg does.

I used to feel like the one that cleared the I'm hardly finding any. Would be fun to look at stats.

JD - I've also been seeing a decline in actual posts (Could be that others are hitting it ahead of me?) and I've not had to clear a bunch away lately.

I love it when GregT gets cranky.  He's hilarious.

I've done what I can when I see spam posts.  It's interesting that, lately, I'm not seeing a whole page of posts in Chinese.  It's been one, two or three posts where the subject is a URL.  Yes, they are for various "miracle compounds."

I think you guys were cleaning it all up a while ago when we were getting the Kim Jong Il specials but these days it's like anywhere from half dozen to a dozen almost every day. I wouldn't mind if I could hold down the shift button and nuke a few at a time, but it's a multi-step process for each one.

Which in a way means the spammers got what they wanted. Some doofus opened the link and looked at whatever it was. It's like that kind of spam is tailor made for this site.

Maybe they're smarter than I thought. They're smarter than I am, that's for sure.
