How do I know if they are vaulable?

I have inherited a few bottles of wine and champagne but I can't find prices on some of them.

Codorniu Blanc De Blanc 1976 Cava Brut

Le Bourgogne De Ropiteau 1977 white table wine

Beaulieu Vineyard 1963 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley

Any help would be appreciated. We also got some that the cork has fallen into the wine. Does that mean it is no longer good?

Have the wines been stored in a temperature/humidity controlled area?  If not, they're not valuable.

well I'm not sure. Let's go with yes for now...it's very possible that they were just on a wine rack in a house.

On release that Codorníu went for about $4.99.  Cheap, lively, made to be drunk young.  I would imagine that with inflation and everything, you may be able to get $4.99 today, maybe not.

The BV is the Napa series?  Not the reserve or the GdL?  If so, it is one step up from the Coastal series. It comes from vineyards all around the Valley.  On release it was probably around $2.  Probably worth about that today, maybe $5 for curiosity seekers. 

That doesn't mean that the wine will suck, although that's what I would bet.  I don't think anyone is likely to pay much for them, but that's a different story.  Try them.  You may be surprised.  I had a $4 Merlot that was over 20 years old and it was stunningly good.

I agree with Greg, in that the wines weren't valuable to begin with.  If they were, the ability to prove ideal storage is of the utmost importance and cannot be stressed enough.  Just for future reference.  ;)

Greg and GDD have covered most of the bases, but yes if 'the cork has fallen into the wine', that's generally a pretty bad sign... ;-) It sounds like storage was problematic at best, and judging from the sampling of bottles you mentioned, there likely was never any intention to store the wines this long.

Would be curious to hear your experience when you open the bottles and drink them. That's the most value you're going to get from these wines....

Absolutely, in the name of science, you must post after you drink these.  But also make sure you have medical staff on hand when you drink them.  (The alcohol should protect the wine against most nasties, but still...) The BV could be interesting, just because there were a lot fewer vineyards in 1963. Napa Valley meant something then, although BV  started designating origins more specifically (as did Inglenook) starting pretty far back.  Now, I wouldn't pay extra for Napa unless I knew the winemakers, or the block or it was a sub-AVA I really liked.  Please let us know what happens, but I agree these were not collector wines to begin with, even with perfect provenance.  Doesn't mean you can't have some fun with it, tho.

This is all crap - I wouldn't even bother popping the corks. Low quality wines do not get better with age - they get worse.  Low quality wines stored badly become undrinkable.

The likelihood is high that the wines are weak. But tasting them can be educational. The BV even has a possibility, however remote, that it might be interesting.

In the worst case the wine can be used to cook with, in a salad dressing, or to make vinegar. Or is that just my Scots upbringing.... ;-)

No reason not to take a gambit.
