I just needed some help with an issue i know nothing about. Ok my friend has just had a baby boy and i wanted to buy as a gift a bottle of red wine and a bottle of port that would reach maximum perfection around his 21st birthday so we could all sit round and drink it. can you offer any advide on where i should be looking on this please? i have so far been reccomended a Barolo Liste 2001 and Infantado Port Vintage 2003?

thanks for you help on this

Hey - welcome to the site. Why not get a bottle from the year of their birth? Although if they have just been born the 2009 vintages dont exist yet, however, if they can wait, it would be cool to actually have one from the year they were born.

Well 2001 was an excellent vintage for Barolo, 2 or 3 decades of life will be easy. Liste is a specific site in Barolo bottled by Damilano( solid, middle of the pack producer) and Borgogno( brilliant Liste bottling).

Vintage port will have no problem making his 21st birthday and has a fine chance of being great even on his 50th, assuming proper storage.

I think your suggestions would make fine choices.

Other ideas would be Bordeaux, 2005 is on the shelves and in an exceptional vintage, many 2004 wines from Tuscany, so Brunello and Super Tuscans in particular, will go that long as well.

If we had a budget it would be easier to make specific recommendations.
