GDP on Wine

Snooth User: Gregory Dal Piaz

Hi everyone!

Posted by Gregory Dal Piaz, Jan 8, 2010.

Just wanted to update everybody on goings on.

After a whirlwind end to 2009, thanks to all of you!, things have slowed down to a more manageable speed. That should leave with me with more time to visit here and respond to threads in the article, which I am planning on doing momentarily.

I've got several tastings coming up and will be reporting soon on a few Spanish wines, 1991 California, a look at aged Charbono, of all things, and a vertical tasting of the wines of Montevertine.

I don't know exactly why but 2009 had a decidedly Domestic and Italian slant, even if you take out the various trip to Italy , the Italian samples submitted for review far out numbered the French of Spanish samples. I hope we can change that, though the Italians will always be my first love.

There are some big changes in the works here which will begin to come to fruition in the coming months. I think the diversity of opinions it will include will be surprising to many people but I don't want to talk of my chickens before they hatch.

I would love to hear all of your suggestions regarding where you would like to see Snooth focus in the coming months. More importantly I want you all to know that even though we may not be able to follow each of your suggestions I do take them to heart and do what I can to integrate them into our editorial calendar.

Speaking of Calendars, I'll be doing some traveling this year as well. I am looking forward to spending a week in Oregon in July and will begin planning my winery visits pretty soon. I also hope to return to Italy in May and report on the exciting 2006 and 2007 vintages in Piedmont.

And finally with things slowing down a bit around here I will begin hosting Snooth tastings once again. We'll be in our conference room here on Madison Avenue Sunday the 24 of January for the first Snooth tasting of the year if anyone is interested in joining us just drop me a line. Open That Bottle Night is also coming up quickly; Saturday February 27th. While I am already committed to an event that night I will be organizing Snooth's Open That Bottle Night on Sunday the 28th so let me know if you are interested in joining us then!

Happy new year to everyone and thanks again for making 2009 such a great year!

And one last thing, watch out for more video on the site, from the upcoming virtual tasting with Two Hands' Michael Twelftree to my own upcoming weekly take one wines. It's going to be a fun and exciting 2010!

Thanks Dm,

I am back, and I'll be around every day a little, maybe even post something provocative to see what happens

Certainly was quite a 2009. Looking forward to seeing what comes up for us all in 2010. From a technology perspective, I have healthy ambitions for the year ahead.

You can count me in for OTBN. I'll start looking around for something special to bring.

Perhaps Gregory, Philip, and others, may consider
the idea of assisting in the formation of SNOOTH CHAPTERS
across the world! ENCOURAGING IT AT LEAST...if the idea appeals
or is politically correct...! Not in a formal way...if such an idea
is not in keeping with other matters....

Just throwing out an idea......! THANKS!

I think that this can happen almost on its own
by the invisible hand !!

I am myself planning one for ENGLAND,
hopefully with LINDY, when she and her
husband visit me !!
By the way, I met her through SNOOTH !!!

Actually, there is nothing to stop SNOOTHERS in a particular location
getting together if they so wish !!!

I am hoping to sip wine with....... with....dmcker....and many more of you
and I am not short of established friends !!!!! CHEERS !!!

What is Open That Bottle Night, and can I do it from a remote location? Also, I plan on being in Sonoma late March, so if anyone will be out there I would love to touch base.

Very much seconding Amour's appeal for Snooth chapters across the world. In the meantime, if any London Snoothers want to get together for a tasting, let me know.

If they do create Snooth Chapters I would say you need to be able to look up other Snoothers by state. This way if someone wants to start a chapter than can start soliciting others to join.

Snooth chapters across the world would be great! I don´t know how many Snoothers there are in Europe, but I´m sure we could become more!

Sounds like you've got a year I'd be envious of GDP.
@Armour. Chapters sound good, unfortunately I seem to be the only Kiwi let alone in Christchurch. I think the Snoothers location map mentioned in a previous thread will help as this site grows in Snoothers gathering together (as well as providing an avenue for visiting Snoothers to find a local to show them the sites.
