Hello to all at Snooth,
I came across your brilliant site today whilst looking for opinions on a wine I bought recently for a friend. Last month I spent some wonderful time in South Africa including visits to the Franschhoek Valley and the Constantia Pocket and can't wait for my next opportunity to marry wine and travel.
I have enjoyed good wine for some time and firmly believe that life is far too short to drink bad wine! My mission now is to educate myself further in this great topic. I am a member of the Wine Society here in the UK who run many great tasting events, but don't have a forum like this - what a fantastic idea!
Hi all from a new user in the UK!

Sounds like your trip to South Africa went well. In the UK most of Europe's great wine producing areas are almost on your doorstop, so you've got plenty of excuses to go and taste your way around some of those places, when you get a chance.
Don't forget that the UK is starting to produce some pretty good wines, especially white & sparkling ones. Depending on where you are, it might be worth seeing what vineyards are in range of a day trip. I've posted this link before, but I'll put it again here anyway as it's relevant: Oz Clarke's Pick of the Best British Vineyards:

Hi and Welcome,
I am also a new user here and have very much appreciated all of the information on the site. I have looked at various wine community sites and I have found that this is the largest and easiest to use. I look forward to hearing about your travel and your wine reviews.

Harry - I'd like to echo Penguinoid's comments and suggest you check out a few of the UK's south coast wineries - Cornwall, Kent etc. I was very impressed
