Anyone nearby who fancies meeting up for some tastings every couple of weeks?

How are you?

I am always in Richmond, Kew and Sunbury when I come to England.

Will definitely contact you as a Snooth pal when I am there!

Do you buy from Nicolas or Oddbins ?

I also go to pubs...I used to go to one at Strand-On-The -Green where a pianist friend of mine played, and another really nice one in Richmond not far from the had a lovely little garden and served French cuisine and BANGERS AND MASH as well ...with lots of onions, of course!

Brilliant, thank you! You must ping me next time you're over this way and we'll grab a night on the town somewhere in Surrey darling ;) Never been out much in Richmond to be honest, usually hit the country pubs around Weybridge and Walton-on-Thames, though I'm always open to suggestions!

Good suggestion Benzibar. We're in central London, sometimes out your way on summer weekends. Let me know if you get anything together - it might coincide. Cheers - and thanks for being wonderfully social.

:) Where abouts are you based, and where do you usually head for a glass of vino? I work over in Canary Wharf, so I'm always interested in good places for a glass or two of plonk.

I  bought a flat at Plantation Tower near York Road and the antique section Lotts Road not far from Chutney Mary...a good Indian Restaurant...also often combed CW....I was a member of the Conrad Hotel Gym  and Burlington.....drank wine at DRAKES' BAR and ate at BOATERS!

I used to use Dockland Light Railways, I think...!

Handy for rolling home from the 606 Club in Lots Rd then Amour ;)Benzibar, a couple of other places that might be accessible for you: RSJ on the South Bank with its legendary Loire list and Vivat Bacchus at London Bridge - interesting list, accomplished meals and good cheese/charcuterie.

I've been to vivat Bacchus and I love the place!

The abundance of great French wine buys all over London and the close proximity to France....across the water or rather under

is taken for granted when one lives there!

For our UK Snoothers do you care to say if Waitrose is tops for Supermarket wine-shopping and one-off buys?

Reply by Lindy Hemsley, Apr 18, 2010.

Waitrose is certainly leading the market here in terms of creative and well-priced stock so, unfortunately, I do get excited by their catalogues and place lots of orders that I would really prefer to give to smaller independent merchants. Waitrose's reliability is irresistible, though: some of the most interesting wines I have tasted in the past couple of years have come from there. The efficiency of their website and the fast and free delivery just makes it all too easy. Am making a diary note to order from Yapp Bros, Philglass & Swiggot, Wimbledon Wine Cellars, Noel Young and others before opening the next Waitrose list.

It is they who suggested Laurent Perrier to me in the 1990's and I did not regret it.

I can suggest them with great pride.

There was one on Chiswick High Road when I lived there

and I learnt a lot from them.

For our UK Snoothers,.... now there is a merchant whose workers are helpful and up to date on several aspects of wine and the trade in general. At least, that is what I concluded up to recently.

To be honest, I found staff extremely helpful in the UK,

moreso than in other countries. But for heaven sake, I do not

want to wage a war.

On that note I would add, explore Fortnum&Mason's wines as well.......they did carry some special bottles.
