Introduce Yourself

Snooth User: mtorel

Hello Snooth! A complete newbie here, happy to learn.

Hello all,

I am a young wine novice looking to broaden my knowledge through the experience of more accomplished wine enthusiasts.

Having resided in the UK for the majority of my life, I have recently migrated to Singapore. Ironically though, I have only just started exploring my wine tastes with my enthusiastic uncle.

I would like to accompany my meals more with wines rather than beers! I've always preferred good red wines to good white wines, and since moving here I have been able to try an array of (including not so good) wines.

I'm hoping to learn more about what I could enjoy through your contributions. As far as I know at this point in time, I tend to prefer relatively smooth wines, offering a very fruity taste. My most recent approved tastes include a 1988 Recolte Saint Julien - Grand Vin de Leovile du marquis de las cases; and a 1990 Saint Julien Chateau Talbot.

Perhaps we can start of with these as prime examples of my current tongue pleasures.

Maybe I can start this with a question as well! I am looking for a 1992 wine, similar to the criteria I have set above. Can anyone recommend anything? So far, I have been pointed towards Baron Philippe de Rothschild Chateau Moution Rothschild, but I am pretty open to anything right now within the 1992 year.

I look forward to learning more!

An interesting introduction, mtoral.  Your story has some parallels to the experience of my nephew, which, of course, makes me the enthusiastic uncle.  While I have pointed my nephew towards some wines--and have enjoyed his reactions--unfortunately, they have not been 20 year-old classified growth Bordeaux.

Also, unfortunately, I do not have much understanding of what wines are available to you in Singapore.  (I live in the U.S.)  However, we have had a number of correspondents here on the Forum from Singapore.  With luck one of them will jump in here and engage in a dialog with you.

Welcome to the Snooth Forum.

Sounds like birth year bottles. Biggest issue is going to be finding the resources nearby that can deliver legitimate bottles of the wines you are interested in.  Singapore is such a trading hub that I think you should be able to find a good source, but caveat emptor is the rule.

You might also want to see if that's a good vintage in the regions you are interested in.  ERobertParker doesn't give 1992 very good marks in Bordeaux.
