Nice cleavage. ;-) What else would you like us to know about yourself?

FIFY

Welcome, Rosie.  It looks like you used your iPhone to take the pic.  There are some conventions in JPEG file format that Apple uses differently than other software products.  So, a picture that is oriented properly on an Apple product may not be on a Microsoft product.  (As I recall, Outthere has a good technical grasp of this issue.  However, we like keeping him focussed on wine instead of these other frivolities.)

It looks like you held onto that wine for a few years.  So, how was it?

I'm the one that has a good technical grasp on how to correct the problem.  Open your picture with MSPaint on a Windows PC.  Resize it, perhaps down to 35% for a landscape picture.  Copy that and start a new picture, making sure your blank background is smaller than the size you just copied.  Now paste that clipboard image into MSPaint and then save that as a new picture.  Now it will orient itself properly for all to enjoy.

My comment that OT had a good technical grasp of the problem, Al, was from my recollection that he once presented a darned impressive discourse on the settings in certain fields or header records in the JPEG file format.  I think it would be futile to try to find that in the Forum archives, now.  So, maybe I dreamt that, or maybe it wasn't him.  Maybe it was you.  If so, please accept my apology for the confusion.  My excuse is that I'm old.  If it was OT, this impressive demonstration of technical prowess notwithstanding, I don't remember that he presented any work around as you have.

Anyway, your orientation correction algorithm sounds a bit more complicated than mine:

  1. From the iPhone:
    1. Snap Picture
    2. E-mail it to myself

  2. From PC
    1. Download picture from e-mail into "Downloads."
    2. Open with Paint
    3. If orientation is not correct, rotate it until it is correct
    4. Save As JPEG file on my hard disk

It seems to me that, more often than not, Paint is able to orient the downloaded picture correctly, and I don't have to rotate.  If I try to load a iPhone-snapped picture into a Forum post without going through Paint, the results are unpredictable.

Rosie, we're just showing off.  Please don't let that bother you. We all, very much, hope that you join us to chat about wine

That's such a Windows response to digital world life. Painful to even hear/read. Mac solutions are much easier. No resizing, etc. needed.

Al, come on now!  You couldn't possibly be a Depeche Mode fan!  Where'd you get that image?
