Hello!

I am from the Twin Cities and am excited to join Snooth.

Hello, Gwen.  We look forward to having some good conversations with you, also.  What wines have you been enjoying in the chilly climes of Minnesota, lately?

Forty below zero last week up here in the great northern tundra required some big reds-

had a great BV Rutherford Cab 2010 the other day as a treat, and have also found some really nice decently cheap zins-the most recent was a four vines zin.

Always looking for new suggestions as well! I've been wanting to explore some Italian reds recently but have to admit I'm a little intimidated by the labels!

Hi Gwen,

Welcome to Snooth.  My name's Darren.

I'm pretty much just a red drinker...so I like to see new faces who express enjoyment of reds.

I was heavily into Italian stuff for several years, but have been broadening my interests.

I liked the big ones, Barolo, Brunello, Amarone, etc.  If you're looking to start with some easy, less expensive ones, Montepulciano d'Abruzzo is good, Chianti Classico....but it depends a great deal on what is available to you.  I think one recent conscript is from North Dakota and he hasn't much to choose from locally.  Are there some good wine shops near you?

Gwen, I agree that the BV Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon is a good wine--and 2010 is an excellent vintage year.  So, you can't hardly go wrong with your choice.

Darren is a recent Snoother, and he has made some excellent suggestions regarding Italian wines.  I am a California bigot, but there is no denying the greatness if Italian wines--both in just their outstanding sensory pleasure and their wonderful mating with food.

When you speak of Zinfandel, you are really in my "sweet spot."  I posted some Zinfandel suggestions in a Forum conversation with a fellow from Wisconsin.

Forty below is outrageous.  A few years ago, in my working days, I enjoyed a company-sponsored January trip to the bustling metropolis of Fergus Falls, MN.  Some really great people live in Fergus Falls, but that was too darned cold for me.

Hi Gwen, You might tell them about the nice "spring break" we are getting this week. Bismarck saw 40 today and sunscreen sales soared.

This forum has been a great place to learn about both wine and the people who love it. I enjoyed my first bottle of a "super Tuscan"  a few weeks ago and will be exploring more of those. Since you like Cabs and Zins you may find these among those you will try more than once.

Currently my wine tasting has been sidelined due to an unplanned appendectomy which calls for nearly two weeks of antibiotics and no alcoholic intake, but at least I can plan which one to try next.

NDDave!  I have been wondering where you have been.   Wishing you a very speedy recovery from your unplanned surgery.  How scary, but it sounds like you made it through ok.  Take care, get well soon, and then you can resume your wine adventure.  Best wishes..

Sorry to hear that you were down, Dave.  Fortunately, it looks like you  are on your way back.  Take care.
