Is it called the Gables because Clark Gable used to own it? ;-)
So here's my number one beef with going up to Sonoma and spending the night: I'm a local, sort of, living in Oakland, but sometimes we have an event to go to up there and it's inconvenient to drive home the same night--usually because we left the kids at my sister in law's place overnight. But hardly anyone allows one night stays on the weekend. So here's my wish: That there was a clearing house of some sort where a number of nearby inns got together and offered a limited number of rooms for one night, but you don't know which one you will get till the week before. That way, you don't have empty rooms and you also don't lose two night bookings--the number of rooms that are vacant overall are probably pretty consistent from year to year, just some luck of the draw in terms of how they are distributed. And you could limit the offer to folks from, oh, the East Bay with two daughters.
The place looks great. We'll keep it in mind for visitors and ourselves.
