Introduce Yourself

Hello Snooth!

Posted by chuck3307, Aug 3, 2013.

Hello all! My name is Chuck. I am from Pennsylvania and just recently developed a love of Wine.  My position in the Private Jet Charter field  got me started as all my clients seem to request various wines on their flights and in client meetings that I attend. I am just learning and hope to gain a ton of knowledge on here and in my travels.

Have a great evening!

Very nice to meet you. I do get to taste the wines, usually whatever they order, I drink. We have a few local wineries in my area and they do tastings here and there, which I attend. But all and all, I am just a beginner in all this.

Let me add my welcome, Chuck.  We are confident that you will enjoy your new wine adventures.  Most of us do it just for the fun of it.  True, it's GDP's job, but he still seems to enjoy it.  Good for him.

I am curious.  Do your clients seem to be consistently requesting similar wines, or is there much variation?

Thanks! My clients each seem to have a different taste in wine. Most of the celebrities that I fly seem to lean toward a good red wine, but the business people are all over the place with their choices.  I have sent as a gift a few wine selections from my local places and they seem to go over well.

What an interesting way to get to taste wine.  Big bummer for anyone from PA is that the state has a monopoly on the wines that are sold, at least up until recently.

While most of the posters here don't get to spend a lot of time on private jets (might be the first time I've used understatement here), some do occasionally splurge on wines in that class.  On the other hand, we share a lot of ideas about good value wines, too.  Sounds like we'll get a chance to learn from your experiences and make good decisions when we do want to drink like the "jet set."

Hi Chuck, and welcome. Reading your posts, I think about weight and space. Do you stock half bottles on board? That could give you greater selection. Sounds like a tricky set of circumstances, and a nice challenge.

Welcome! I've only recently started actively cultivating an interest in wine as well. I've really enjoyed it here - hopefully you will too. It's a great place to read, discuss, ask questions...

Cheers!

I am more of  the value wine sort of guy for sure. Not sure if it is because of my heritage, but I prefer and Italian Red wine.  The last bottle that we had was a Fantodi 2008 vigna del sorbo Chianti(had to check the bottle). It was a gift.  When it comes to client requests, Whatever they ask for, we find and usually make it a complimentary thing.

On our planes, we stock the Small bottles of wine. Not because of a weight and space issue, but because of waste. Most of it wouldn't get drank and alot would have to be pitched. We usually stock a more value priced wine, any other by request. When it comes to flying private, you can fill the isle with cases of wine if you so choose to....which we had a client do once haha.  Thanks for all the replies, makes a person feel welcome.

Thanks JENNIFERT!  This seems like a very informative site. I will definitely be taking in as much as I can!
