Hello Snooth!

Greetings from Central Indiana. Not much to say here. I like local wineries around Indiana and when I am on the road.

Welcome to Snooth, Pellidon.  My wife's parents are from Indiana.  In the early 1980s they returned from a visit, there, with a bottle of Pinot Chardonnay from a winery called Banholzer.  Yes, way back when, American winemakers referred to it as "Pinot Chardonnay."  By 1982 most of the California wineries had corrected themselves, but I guess Indiana was a holdout.

I just tried an internet search, and I can't find any indication that the Banholzer Winery still exists.  However, it appears that Karl Banholzer was a true pioneer of Indiana wines.

From what I found online Banholzer was one of the new wave at the onset of the return to wine making in the state. In my area there are several wineries and a new vineyard has been planted.

What are they planting, Pellidon?  The New York Times today had an article about Finger Lakes Rieslings, and mentioned that Michigan makes good Riesling as well. Thanks to GregT, I can agree with that.  Not sure the geology is right for it in all parts of Indiana, but might be a candidate.

Oliver Winery has planted a lot of the standard grapes in their Creekbend Vineyard label. Their Traminette is good as is their Gewürztraminer. I haven't seen whose vines are planted near me.
