Introduce Yourself

Hello from South Korea

Posted by Fenderbaum, Jun 20, 2009.

I have been submitting some reviews for the past few months but haven't noticed the forums really, until now. I am from Ireland but am currently living in South Korea. I have been drinking wine for about ten years or so now but it's only been recently that I've started to pay more attention to what I am drinking and trying to develop my palate (thank you Snooth!). Normally I wouldn't have looked past big bold Australian reds but recent tastings of southern French and Italian wines have piqued my interest in learning more. Having said that it is a little tricky trying to track down decent wine in Korea at an affordable price. The market here appears to be in its infancy but will undoubtedly grow in the coming years.

Welcome, where in the emerald isle do you hail from? I'm celtic myself (Cornwall) and one of our investors is from Omagh.

Thanks Philip. I was born and raised in Belfast and went to college in Dublin (many years ago now unfortunately!) Great site you have here.

Hi Fender,

Welcome to Snooth!

I've heard that the South Korean market is one of the fast growing on earth and developing an appetite for some excellent Italian wines in particular. I think you have a greatly improved selection to look forward to.

Thanks Gregory.

Yeah the Korean market has definitely undergone a big change even in the relatively brief time that I've been here. It still has a long way to go though - prices here can be very hefty even for popular wines like Yellow Tail (15 dollars or so). Chilean wines tend to be the most popular here as they don't appear to be as pricey (maybe some free trade agreement going on there, I'm not sure). It's all about trying to spot the bargains out here.

Again, thanks for the welcome.

I head back to the UK tomorrow - first time in 18 months. I've been craving fish and chips, pork pies and of course, cornish pasties!

Excellent. I head back in a few weeks myself. A good time to load up on all the things I've been missing - like good cheese and Guinness.
