Nearly true to your name!

Welcome QM... do you love wine, or are you getting into it?  What wine do you enjoy?

Love the name. I'll answer for him:

"Both."

"Lots."

Thanks Greg for getting involved!  I was getting really lonely!  There are probably fifteen other Welcome to Snooth messages I've responded to way down the list that got no replies.  I guess we still have to reach out eh?  I wonder what ever happened to the For the Love of Wine girl?  Never heard from her again!

She's probably starting a new Facebook page called, "For the Love of Acceptance"

BTW, OT, two posts above you there's someone responding in this thread who looks like he's starting to go all out to take over your 'snark of the day' title...   ;-)

One and done.

That seems to be the mode of most introductory posts.  Even the guy that wanted recommendations on his birthday trip to Napa Valley never came back.

No big deal.

Yeah. I wonder where that guy ended up going?

That girl DVOGLER is talking about isn't going to come back either. I believe she is probably so busy with all the hits to her site that she just doesn't have time.

D - no snark at all if you're referring to me! Just channeling the OP!  I liked him because he didn't waste words saying "hello Snooth". A simple "hello" sufficed and I like that. Made him stand out from the crowd.

How about La Vida Wines?  That one disappeared really quickly.

Greg, what about the verbose line of gratitude below the "hello"?

OT still retains the Snark honour!

I wasn't sure what to make of that verbosity. Maybe it was meant as a PM and accidentally got posted on the forum?

So OT is the Snooth Snark? That's a pretty cool moniker but I never found OT to be particularly snarky.

Anyhow, I like the way these orphan threads develop.

They have been some of the more interesting ones lately, haven't they?

Where should we take this one?

Until Quiet Man returns...this is fair game.

It's almost 11 pm and I went to my buddy's place at 3 for a nice tasting and dinner.  We were starting with two BC biggies.  A 2006 Sumac Ridge Pinnacle and a 2006 Herder 'josephine' (both meritage blends).  Very nice...(both about $56), the Herder was 80% merlot, the Pinnacle 50% Cab sav.  Quite different, but very nice. He made a vegetarian "tagine" style (Moroccan) dinner with couscous.  Three cheeses and olives to start.  I brought an odd-ball 2005 (BC) Merlot that I found at a shop recently (all dusty like they found it in the basement) and damn! it was good too.  Then we opened a Peter Lehman 8 songs and a Nichol Syrah.

I'm still a bit hammered, but I'm not Snarky! (Wife's in Seattle for the weekend!).  All's good  :)

Greg, I don't think newbie's know how or who to post a PM to so you're full of S#!T!

Hmmmm. Don't think I'm touching that with a barge pole....

I think you guys scared Quiet Man off, or perhaps he couldn't stop laughing after reading your comments that he can't keep his fingers on the keyboard.

Hey, I think this thread needs a picture.  Here's Sally and her husband Bob; she was the winner at our recent wine tasting party and she is holding the bottle she won.

What did Sally win?  It looks Italian.

DM: I just meant that I won't have to endure her derision in the morning when I'm crawling to the couch!

But miracle of miracles...I'm not too bad!

DV:  One of our St. Francis Red Blends from Napa.  I didn't get a picture of the bottle before I gave it to her, but it is one from the wine club.  I think it was worth around $50.

Hey, I see some high-end audio equipment there.  Did you know I worked at JBL in Northridge CA for about a year before I went to engineering school full time?  I got myself a pair of L-150 loudspeakers and I built a set of speakers on the side.  That was a fun job, working in the QA department, testing samples from the production runs.

I wondered who might notice the rack!  My buddy bought his condo mainly because the room was "right" for the speakers and audio equipment!  He's a total audiophile, but he's thinking of going completely digital.  Last night we were going through his LP's and playing a LOT of Frank Zappa (old stuff).  I can't remember the name of the speakers, but they're fairly thin, but three feet by three feet!  He can't turn on the sub-woofer because it bounces the stylus off the vinyl!  You can just see one on the left.  I'll have to get you the name.  I thought the wine prize was Italian because it looked like there was a DOCG label around the capsule.

Greg, I don't get the Quiet Man reference! :)

Quick catch!

It only had to do with your feistiness and impressive consumption. Two guys and five bottles. I take my hat off to you sir!

DV - I bet he has planer-style speakers, the really thin drivers.  I've heard a few over the years and I know they require substantial power to drive them.   http://www.magnepan.com/model_MMG

I still have around 300 LPs that just sit in my basement - I don't have a decent turntable to play them right now.  I used to have a Technics direct-drive turntable with an Ortofon cartridge, but it died and I couldn't justify buying another one.  If you use a cheap needle to play your LPs, you will destroy them after a few plays.  Regarding Frank Zappa, I too have one of his albums - The Mothers - Overnight Sensation.  The big song from that album was Montana.  His group actually put out tons of stuff - check this out:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frank_Zappa_discography

Maybe I just got myself a new task - find a way to play my old albums and perhaps even get one of those USB turntables so I can digitize select songs.

I drink alone, With nobody else.

You know when I drink alone, I prefer to be by myself.
