Good Wine Cooler for Home

Posted by bshade07, Apr 20, 2009.

Hi... I am thinking about buying a wine cooler for my house and I was wondering if anyone had a good suggestion for one. Im looking at smaller coolers that hold anywhere from 12-18 bottles of wine. :)

Welcome to Snooth bshade.

First off I would strongly suggest you consider a larger unit. A unit that holds 12-18 bottles will be filled in one shopping trip, uses as much electricity as a larger unit, and probably does it's job not as well.

If you are planning on short term storage your fridge will do as good a job. For longer term storage, more than a year, I would recommend looking into some of the larger units such as are available from the http://www.wineenthusiast.com which is having a sale right now.

Some of the 36-50 bottle units offer a combination of effective storage and great value.

And if you do spring for what Eurocave presents as that lovely, large piece of furniture in their ad on the Wineenthusiast page Greg sends you to, don't place the unit next to two floor-to-ceiling windows with all the sunlight and temperature spikes that will entail! ;-)

As they so helpfully add on their homepage:

A decidedly more modest piece of winefurniture that still should not be placed anywhere near floor to ceiling windows!

If you are looking for an affordable wine cooler then I think 12-18 bottles are not a bad choice. It does tend to use more electricity because smaller units tend to have less insulation. I agree that wine enthusiasts do have great wine coolers. I especially like their 21 bottle wine cooler. The design is great and their quality is outstanding. By good quality I mean they last long, are quiet and vibration free. There is one wine cooler that is a dual zone 12 bottle wine cooler from Haier. It is hard to come by a wine cooler that is dual zone with such a low capacity. They price is great also!

If they re still trying to make a decision 5 years later they have more problems than just what wine cooler to buy.  ;)
