Charcuterie, schnitzel and even chicken and dumplings have all been successes for me in the past with Gewurtzraminer. I also remember one fine Saturday afternoon on the patio with a good goat cheese and fruit salad that included plenty of melon and lychee and mint. Though lots of people try to pair it with curry I prefer to enjoy my wines in ways that allow me to taste across their entire range, and my curries with beer or tea. ;-)
Who's the vintner? Will be curious to hear how the meal goes...

Get some French Munster, melt it in some cream and cook (pre-blanched) leeks in that. Top that with saffron-poached salsify, fresh brussels sprouts that have been blanched and then heated in buerre monte with basil, dredge a skate wing in nutmeg-seasoned flour and saute it, then add a poached quail egg on top.

The wine is by Jean Becker of Zellenberg - I bought it from Oddbins (UK) before the new management took over.
I usually just pair it with a brie with truffles (oh the hedonism) but need something more substantial for a date.
Thanks for the great ideas guys I'll let you know what I decide to do - with the food that is!

Gewuerztraminer: I would serve it with a typical Alsace dish. What about a typical "Flammkuchen" (Tarte Flambée)? It is easy to prepare and you´d have a real Alsace experience. Let me know if you need a recipe.

I think Gewurtztraminer is such a lovely wine to drink by its own, especially in the afternoon of hot summer days. With food, too bad not many Thai restraunts carry Gewurtz, it's a great combination with Thai spices.

Thai food for me please! Pad Thai, Chicken Green Curry = mmmm
The oily sweetness helps cut through the spice.

Ah it's for a date I was about to recommend pigs feet, well I will still recommend pigs feet but that may be your last date with this dining partner.
I like Degrandcru's call. My add some curry to the onions for some snap.
Ok so I can let go of the pigs feet but not the pork. Maybe some pig's belly over lentils de put with a touch of Ras el Hanout for spice and complexity and jasmine rice.
Damn now I'm hungry.
