From Obscurity to Excellence: The Story of the Grapes and Wines of the Russian River Valley

Posted by deemcreative, Oct 16, 2012.

Please enjoy the trailer on this wonderfully told story of the Russian River Valley by Maurice (Joe) Nugent on http://www.Russian-River-Valley.com.

The dramatic narrative begins in the 1860s, through the harsh times of prohibition and the great depression, the era of bulk wines and finally the triumph of the Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays of the Russian River Valley AVA. Interviews with Joe Rochioli, Jr., Burt Williams, Davis Bynum and others.

The movie premiers at Rochioli Winery on Oct. 26 to a sold out audience. Please visit the website for locations and times of screenings.

This film is an excellent piece for fund raising, wine tastings, winemakers' dinners or other general wine or cultural events; it has broad audience appeal and a strong motivational message about immigration, innovation and risk taking. Is enjoyable for novice or expert level wine audiences, or history, cultural and heritage groups. Bookings available after mid November 2012.

This looks very neat.  I hope I get to see it.

I don't know if anybody clicked on the "Book a Presentation" link, but there is also another pretty neat video there.  This one is a slide show of, presumably, still shots from the movie.  One of them shows a menu for a White House luncheon honoring Brithish Prime Minister Tony Blair.  Down at the bottom of the menu you see that Rochioli Chardonnay was served.  Reading the menu made my mouth water, but then I had a "Huh?" moment.  The second course was "Tornadoes of Veal."  Do you think that should have been "Tournedos," or do you think the plates included a whirlwind of veal loin?

EMARK: great catch the spelling error! Very funny!

Rochioli wines have been served every year at the White House since the early 1990s, for both Republican and Democrat administrations.

Here is another White House menu from the Obama administration. These menus are proudly displayed in the Rochioli tasting room.

Thanks for posting that menu, but shouldn't that vinaigrette be made with an American sweet wine-turned-vinegar?

As to that other menu, without getting too political, seems like the host of that 2007 luncheon had a problem with hurricanes and "tornadoes."

Great party at Rochioli Winery last night for the premier of the movie! The movie was well received, noted wine blogger Lily-Elain Hawk of http://wakawakawinereview.com will be reviewing it. Her comment at the event was "loaded with information, smart and charming!" Watch for her review!

Special thanks to Rochioli Winery for hosting a lovely evening! KR Catering was super!

Future showing dates and locations will be posted on the website, www.Russian-River-Valley.com. Would love to show this movie in other regions, contact us if you are interested in booking it. Run time is 1 hr and 17  min. Would be fun for a wine tasting, wine club, culture and travel or educational organization.
