- French Students in Scotland
Hello,
We are french students, we are studying in Trade Wines and Spirits Bachelor's Degree, we are around 25 year's old, we have 2 teachers with us so we will be a total of 20.We are planning in coming in February around the 22 in Scotland for a week.
Our project is to combine tourism and study! We were thinking about staying in Edinburgh and travel from there to the different areas.
We would like to visit a vineyard.I am not quite sure if there is a vineyard in Scotland, what can you help me?
In which area are you and would it be posible to come and visit in February?
We would also like to visit 2 distilleries, a brewery as well.
I would appreciate any practical information or suggestion.
I am looking forward to your response,
Sincerely,
-

Hello La Femme,
Welcome to Snooth. Philip might be able to direct you to a winery but as far as the distilleries and brewery that should be easy to find, no?
A phone book is where I would start.
Good luck and Enjoy!

No vineyards in Scotland to my knowledge, at least not producing grape wine (there are various elderflower/dandelion etc. 'wineries'). Scotland is the Mecca of whisky. Speyside (mostly Aberdeenshire, so Edinburgh is not too far away) has the most distilleries per square mile. Google 'malt whisky trail' for plenty of info. If you can make it, I recommend the world's smallest distillery, Edradour, not far from Pitlochry. Best distillery tour I've been on.
If you want more info, you can PM me. And as a Glaswegian, I must insist that the best nightlife, music and culture in general is in Glasgow. Edinburgh is a tourist trap, although very beautiful for it.
You may want to get in touch with the Glasgow Metropolitan College which runs a WSET course. I can give you direct contacts if, again, you PM me.
