Wine Talk

Snooth User: Richard Foxall

Foxall is in NYC

Posted by Richard Foxall, Nov 17, 2012.

Not sure how else to get the message out, but I am hoping to have dinner with GDP, GregT, EG, Manny, Eva, MReff and anyone else who can make it to (what's left of) Manhattan tomorrow night November 18, 2012. Propose a time and place and I will be there. GDP has some Bedrock and some 1990 Spottswoode to get things going. Bonus: we may be joined by a semi famous music writer. (Don't you wish you wrote for Rolling Stone?)

That's pretty short notice. : )

I have to ask my wife when she gets in.  We don't have any concrete plans tonight but we also haven't seen much of each other lately; and she may not be happy about me going out.  Unfortunately, (although she loves wine), she wouldn't go to a wine dinner.

Maybe change the "town" in the thread title to "NYC".

I'll give you a call.

So bring the family. You'll be cooking for them Thursday too!

Anyhow, trains aren't running from my stop to Boro Hall and on Sunday, it's about an hour by bus - worst mode of transportation in NYC on weekends. So we're thinking tomorrow, Monday.  Does that work for anyone?

Don't have Eva's email, but if anyone does, send her a note, as well as Manny, etc.

Yeah well, tonight's dinner was good but it ended up being a horrible night.  Five year old ended up with a fever.

However, tomorrow could work for me, what are you guys thinking.  Can we get dinner started a little early, thinking no later than 6:30?

Are you in touch with Foxall?  Did they go out last night with Greg or are we planning to do this tonight?

Eric - just talked to Fox. Can't get in touch w GDP, but I have a couple bottles of wine with me.  Can do PdH or I was thinking if it's just a few of us, Tartine. Haven't been there for a while and the food is always good. Are you in or out?  BTW - if you can, e-mail my personal address or call as I may not be able to check this.

I brought a bottle for tonight, so if you guys are up for it, i say we should get together. I'm not familiar with either location. However, i brought a 2001 Vino Nobile and I can't imagine it would go very well with the food a PDH.

Just talked to Greg and he's busy tonight so I'm thinking let's just head to la Sirene. It's the old Ivo and Lulu place down on Broome near Varick. Right by Holland Tunnel. Take A,C,E to Canal and walk up or to Spring and walk down, or take the 1 to Spring and walk up. It's only five or six blocks no matter what you take. Good food and French. I have a Riesling and CdP.

What time should we meet?

The time you suggested. Reservations under my name for 6:30.

They're cash only.

And if you care (I don't) if the glasses are like they were when it was Ivo and Lulu, they're 8 oz orange juice tumblers. Should be perfect!

Sounds like a plan.  See you there--with a pint of orange juice.

I'll be in town on Dec 11-12, but given it's work I will probably have plans...maybe someday I'll get to meet some of you folks!

Jtryka - work should not interfere with life. Write that down somewhere and memorize it.

Just home from dinner with Fox and Eric. Dec 11-12 sounds fine to me so pick a date and let's do it.

The restaurant is great. I haven't been there since they took over the space but it's about 3 times as big and it's more classic French. The other was Panamanian / French, which was really interesting and in fact, really good, but so is the traditional stuff.

So let's do something French. Or not. But let's do it!

Last night was a really good time.  Good people, good food and good wine.  I will be happy to go back to La Sirene.  However, I won't be able to do the December date (very bad month for me).  I'm looking forward to the next tasting though.
