Introduce Yourself

Snooth User: mrwaterfield

FIRST TIMER HERE . . .

Posted by mrwaterfield, Apr 17, 2013.

I just found this site while on a search for one of my "go-to" economical sips, and so I decided to fill out the profile and introduce myself.

Call me Taite (say 'Tatty')

Oh, btw, the 'go-to' I am searching for is Gato Negro by San Pedro in Chile. My local place recently was bought or merged, and they dropped alot of favorite product lines, including my Gato! So we are on the hunt in the Phoenix, AZ metro area for it.

Well,, be postin' here later!

HI THERE!

I have always been a big fan of wine.  I love Merlot  and I know the benefits of having a glass a night and have always been searching for the right one that is smooth without the bitterness.  I can't take sweet wines.  For some reason they just turn my stomach.  But now that my children are older, I am able  to go to wine tasting events and explore more wines.  I am really excited about this.

If anyone has any suggestions about a good merlot or cabernet, I would welcome and appreciate it.  By the way you can call my Marie.

Thanks!!

Sorry Taite,

I tried to introduce myself and replied to you.  Well, Hi.  It is good to meet you.  It sounds like you are way more experienced in wine than me.  Good luck finding your Gato Negro!

Marie.

Taite--Welcome to the Snooth Forum  We definitely look forward to hearing more for you.

I can sympathize with the disappointment of the loss of the source for your "go to" wine.  I suppose I could be a smart-ass and suggest that you move from Gato Negro to Zeller Schwartze Katz, but you're probably not looking for a smart-ass answer.  If you look above you'll see a box labeled "Search millions of wines."  Try typing "Gato Negro" in there and see if you can locate any retailers that are local to you.  Or, you can try an on-line search and stumble onto a site called wine-searcher, dredge around there a bit and see that the Total Wines store on Camelback is saying that they have it.  :-)

Marie--I am, of course, very pleased to meet you here, also.  You will not have troubles getting recommendations for Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.  That topic does come up, here.  I might recommend a couple things.  If you look at the upper right side of this page you will see a box that says "Search the Snooth Forum."  You can enter key words into the box and uncover previous discussions here.  In fact this a conversation that was resurrected just recently:

http://www.snooth.com/talk/topic/merlot-wines/

I might suggest that you come back--tag onto this conversation or start a new one--and tell us what Merlots and Cabs you like or dislike.  That might help another participant to recommend similar (if you liked) or contrasting (if you disliked) examples.

One last thing.  There is certainly no shame in not liking sweet wines.  Everybody doesn't like something.  Personally, I can't stand beets.

Me either. It's what you feed to the cows and pigs. Why would humans eat them?

To paraphrase Rick Blaine,  Greg, I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

Red beets are horrible, like eating dirt.  But golden beets are okay in moderation. There are really only about four foods I just don't eat, and avocado and beets are at the top of the list.  Practically a sacrilege that a Californian doesn't eat avocados, but there you are.

In Montreal we found a great Cab Sav called E Minor, er cheap and cheerful but a Borossa Valley Cab Sav and a good tipple for the money about 15$ a bottle in Quebec.

Hi Taite,

Welcome to Snooth, a great place to talk about wine and root vegetables.

I love beets, of all colors and stripes.

Striped Beets!  Too bad you have to get to the insides to see the stripes.

Officially the first threadjacking by a root vegetable.

Sorry Fox, but you have palate issues. I'm taking your CA ID away.

I do roast golden beets, OT, and to be honest, the bigger issue with avocado is the texture, but that texture is inseparable from the fruit, so there you are.  Red beets taste like dirt, period.

Big problem the other night when I met a friend for drinks at Le Colonial in SF:  All their Viet/Cal/Med fusion seems to have pork, coconut, or avocado in it.  Guess what are the other two foods I don't eat?

Beets are great. Beets of any color. I particularly like the warm 3 color beet salad (with fresh goat cheese) at Kuleto's in San Francisco. Now what should I drink with THAT? (I cannot remember what I had with it.)
