Farewell scrabbulous

Posted by Philip James, Jul 29, 2008.

Anyone a fan of the Facebook Scrabble rip-off game? They had over 500,000 daily users, and in a flash its all gone.

The founders were two brothers who at one point were offered $10m for the game, which was a total rip off of the copyrighted original.

Thats a great deal for what probably was just a few months of work. Its in line with what Henry Blodget valued it at:

Yet the team got greedy, and demanded some "tens of millions", now they've got nothing:

Its a crappy day for Hasbro, as they would have rather started with an established community, but a way worse day for Scrabbulous...

Scrabbulous -- I hardly knew ye. I mean, really -- I never did get a chance to install that app.

I didn't look to see if it's true but came across this bit of news about a Scrabulous resurrection.

I want to create a game called "Monopulous" so that I can rip off Milton Bradley and the ripper-offers simultaneously. That will be $50 million, please

According the CNET session that Philip was on it has been renamed Wordscrapper ... so it hasn't died fully yet. :-)

It doesn't look like anything though. no reason to avoid the hasbro version, unless there are ridiculous ads
