- Details for Ercavio Tempranillo Roble 2006
I am new to this varietal. Perplexing is my impression. Very little nose, decent body, ruby color, strangely sweet and fruity. At first I thought it was a breathing problem. I tried giving it some airtime, and then tried asthma medication. It didnt help. I have no clue as to how this was awarded a 91 by the WS. Can anyone educate my palate?

I don't know that I can educate much but I will share that Tempranillo is one of my husband's favorites, so we drink a lot of it. It does tend to be lighter in color and smell. I find it is usually earthier than some and sometimes peppery. It is more uncommon because a lot of people don't like it. In my mind, definitely an acquired taste and I think of it like a Pinot Noir - having a good one makes a difference.

It's a softer, more mellow grape that's for sure. It also plays well with a lot of foods because it won't overpower. I haven't tried this one but have been pretty happy with my experiences with the grape in the past.

Did Ercavio take out on advertisement in a recent WS? Maybe that's how they got a great score!
