Drink Greg's Wine October 20th 2011

Posted by Gregory Dal Piaz, Sep 26, 2011.

Starting a new thread to help keep track of all this.

So we're going to drink some wine, in NYC.

I spent Saturday inventorying part of the cellar and picked up some nice bottles for sharing. I'm looking forward to diving into a nice chunck of wines so the more the merries here, to a point.

So far it seems we have

Myself

GregT

Foxall

Let's so who else is interested in joining us!

Well, I've got to think about it, not really sure since it was a busy day but  I've got some 1983 Bordeaux, Cos d'Estournel, Gruaud larose, and maybe Lynch Bages.

I grabbed 2 bottles of 90 Barolo, Scarpa and Brovia Monprivato

2 bottles of 1989 Prunotto Barolo Cannubi and Bussia

three vintages of Ritchie Creek Cabernet 82,83,86

a pair of 1996 Burgundies from Domaine de Chorey, Les Teurons and Les Cras

and some 2001 German Riesling.

There are also other bottles that I have in my apartment already but that is the short list as of now. Final wines may be different.

Well this was already tough to pass up before seeing the probable lineup.  Still working out some kinks, but hopefully i'll be able to confirm soon.

If I were able to come I could bring an '83 Mouton and a a '96 or two to add to the mix, but afraid that won't be possible this time. ;-(

Greg - what kind of place are you thinking of?  It would be great if a few people showed up from out of town. Laura and Jon - if you can swing it, why not? October is one of the best months to visit NYC - it's not hot and humid and it's not cold and wet - usually just perfect.

I would be at awe at trying a '83 Mounton or any first growth for that matter...I don't think I'll ever make it there...but who knows, I am still young haha

I really have to re-evaluate my collecting habits. Don't really have any aged Bordeaux or Burgundy, and have no Barolo at all.

Greg - I'm doing what I can to make it happen, though getting time off from work in the middle of fall is never the easiest proposition for me.  My plan is to take a Wednesday night flight, arrive early Thursday morning, then pretty much take a cab back to their airport a couple hours after the tasting.  Would be an epic 24 hours in NYC.

Laura and Jon - if you can swing it, why not?

Five reasons: a six year old, a nine year old, two ten year olds and a 16 year old.  Perhaps if it were a school break they could all stay at Grandma's house....

Honestly, it's only about a six to eight hour drive to NYC from here.  Sometime soon I will make it up there.  Maybe I can get my husband to let me do that as a birthday gift :)

The line up of wine sounds absolutely amazing.  Any thoughts on putting the tasting up on video feed?

GDP - As mentioned before, the flights sound great, but i'm wondering if I book a hotel if you have any recommendations or if you could tell me what part of town to look in.

What do you think about adding a Beaucastel vertical to the mix?  I can't seem to find the appropriate occasion to do this locally, and could ship in ahead of time the 89, 98, and 07 in my cellar.

Would also love to get some type video of the event, even if it's only on a cell phone for personal use. Looks like I should be able to make it after all.

Okay, add one:  Wife of Foxall.  We have the babysitter.  Now the question is, what time, where, and are there dinner plans?

So jealous!  It sounds like a great time.  I wish I could make that happen, but cannot figure out how to come up with reasons and explanations that would go over with the family!

Alright, so we have choices here. We can go out and do this in a restaurant or we can do it in the Snooth conference room and buy some foods for a dinnerish meal. If we stay home, so to speak, we can also broadcast the event to the rest of the board members who can't join us.

Thoughts?

I'll vote for the Snooth conference room.  By the way, i'll be there and possibly my wife too but not sure yet.

Another vote for the conference room.  I was thinking that bringing in a bite or twelve would be a good idea and was thinking about how we have Gregoire, this fancy take-home place, in Oakland.  I'm sure the same exists in Manhattan, although we have been the first on a couple trends out here.  (Before there was Per Se, there was French Laundry, after all.)

Any idea about what time?

I vote for Snooth conference room so those of us who cannot be there in person can be there virtually.

What!  Live streaming?  There's a reason my avatar is an inanimate object:  I have a face made for radio.  (And a voice made for print!) ;-)

MReff, look forward to meeting you.  Enjoyed some of your previous exchanges with GregT.
