Don’t Drink William Knuttel Pinot Noir 2010 Yet!

Posted by gastrotraveling, Nov 28, 2012.

It’s not often that I recommend that you don’t drink a particular wine. The way I look at it, why should I waste time describing a wine that isn’t worth buying and tasting? If I don’t like it, I don’t slag it…I just keep quiet. It’s not only non-productive but it may be that my palate is off for whatever reason.

But William Knuttel’s 2010 Pinot Noir Epee Cuvee is different. I want to warn you not to open it  because I did and don’t want you to repeat my mistake. It’s not ready yet but I detect definite promise. It’s still too young but not in a vibrant Beaujolais Nouveau sort of way. It needs more time to develop into what will be crucial to its deep character. Ripe raspberry, black cherry, and spices mingling with toasted oak are now faint and watery but hint at more complex flavor interplays to come. Even William Knuttel’s label advises that extended cellaring will be rewarded. They aren’t kidding. Do it!

I'd never heard of WIlliam Knuttel before reading the above post.  (No surprise there.)  I did click on the link and found his bio.  Pretty interesting fellow.

Doing a little more on-line research, it looks like his wines are pretty inexpensive.
