Domaine Michel Juillot Mercurey 1er cru Clos du Roi 1991

Posted by Greenwells Glory, Jan 4, 2011.

I have a bottle of Domaine Michel Juillot Mercurey 1er cru Clos du Roi 1991.    It was a gift to me ten years ago and I would like to know if it is still possible to drink it?   If so, would you suggest I decant it?   Would it keep for the future if unopened? Does anyone know what the character of this wine would be?    I can't find any information on the web.    Please can you help?

1991 was not a fantastic year for Burgundy but they only make  450 - 600 magnums of that wine so certainly taste it.  At 21 years old it is either ready to drink now or possibly past its prime but Magnums when stored properly mature more slowly than regular size bottles so I say go for it.  Make sure you have friends over to help you with it.

How have you stored the wine since you've had it?

Hopefully in a cool, dark place, otherwise the wine's probably shot.

The point is that Burgundy wine can keep for many years if not decades but as Jon Derry has pointed out storage conditions are important.I once enjoyed a bottle of 1976 Mercurey but that had obviously been properly cellared
