Cyber Monday (Let's help each other out)

Posted by Eric Guido, Nov 26, 2012.

So far the world of wine retail has been pretty boring, when it comes to Cyber-Monday sales.

I've seen free shipping from Zachys (promo code ZSHIPNOV), Sherry Lehmann and AllStar wines (Which doesn't really help you if you live in New York).  Italian Wine Merchant has 20% off everything on the website (promotion code: CYBER2012), which just about makes their prices close to normal.

I was thinking we could all help each other out.  If you see a slae worth mentioning, post it here.  Make sure to include any promotional codes that need to be entered at checkout.  Maybe we can find a deal or two worth jumping on.

Here's some good info I learned from another forum.

Morrell - Promo code Thanks15 - 15% until the end of today

I like Morrell a lot but the prices are usually a tad too high.  This sale makes them worth pulling the trigger.

". . . no wine buying for me until next summer. . . ."  Jon, I think I'd have a much more colorful word for it than "Yikes."

Yikes for me, also.  I look forward to getting tips--very few of which I actually act upon, but still. . . .  I bought a couple things in the past few months because of your recommendations.

This is a new forum for me got into wines about six months ago so you may have to excuse my ignorance. I am willing to take any tips or advise regarding new wines I should try.

BP--

Welcome to the world of wine. We all hope that you find it as interesting and enjoyable as most of us here do.  I also trust that you will find the Forum participants here to be both knowlegeable and courteous.  Please feel free to come back here to the forum to ask questions and to report new revelations that you have discovered.

Let me ask you how did you get interested in wines and what wines have you enjoyed?

OT--

I had to use Google to figure out what SIWBM meant.  I was able to figure out the arrow all by myself.

I did that jokingly for Napagirl since she's an acronym nut.. Sorry if there was some confusion. :)

Lasbottlewines.com had a killer deal on Gary Farrell Carneros Pinot Noir today for sub $30, free shipping on 4 or more and 2% credit back to your account. Was gone nearly as fast as the email hit my inbox.

Right now it's the 2003 Parusso Barbera d'Alba Superiore for $17, free shipping on 6 or more. That's almost $10 off normal price.

Outthere- Really?  I use HMB ONCE and I'm an acronym nut??  I notice you wrote "napagirl" instead of your usual "NG"..... hmmm.   Scary thing is- only took me about 20 seconds to figure out what SIWBM meant..

Outthere and Jonderry, WTF? no wine buying for a year?  TACI, IMO.  Well, TB4U.  I will be buying this year, TCFM :-) :-)

NG,

Don't worry, trust that OT and I have some serious stock to drink through after having gone NUTSO on spending this year. And that's not an acronym ; )

At least I don't have any shortage of wine to drink...just got in about 6 cases recently and then there's holiday gifts, and a couple more pending from Garagiste.

I understand, JD.  Having taken over all closets in the house except my daughter's, I get it.

Typically, when I have an overabundance, so to speak, I will slow down on my purchasing as well.  I mean, you want to be able to enjoy what you already have, right?  And I sometimes have issues keeping up with what I have.

It gets challenging to skip purchasing when I go tasting tho... at a winery, shop, or heck, even tasting something in a restaurant like I did this weekend, leads to $$$ spent that wasn't really planned.  Or someone here will email me about some amazing score, and I JUST HAVE TO GET IT!!  Hence my house of wine... sigh.

Maybe I need a SIWBM as well.  You know you're a wine hoarder when you find a case of something you thought was gone forever!   Like finding money in a purse you haven't used in awhile...

Yeah, it gets out of control...and mine isn't self imposed, my wife did a pretty good job of talking sense into me recently, didn't get excited or anything just pretty much said what needed to be said and that I knew I was going way too big. Plus we're officially going down to one income for the next four months at least while she stays home with our son. On top of that she gave me one last splurge at Woodland Hills Wine Co., felt good and helped give it some finality.

Jon - the Woodland Hills was free shipping. For us out east, it means $36 a case or so less, which makes it reasonable to buy some $15 wines, so I bought some inexpensive Zins and CdRs and Palmina Barbera and such. It will all be gone by Christmas.

I have no idea what SIWBM means.

That said, this is the time to look for deals on wine - vendors do most of their selling in Nov/Dec. And then the inventory clean-ups in January. I'd wait to stop buying then because there will just be so many tempting deals . . .

Maybe it's a "Grass is always greener on the other side of the fence" kind of thing, but I find that the California stores usually have a lot of wine that I like in stock, when our local shops don't.  It also seems like they get the stuff first, and the leftovers trickle into the Northeast. (speaking mainly of imported wine)

I assumed that Outthere meant "self-imposed wine buying moratorium".   Maybe that's not what he meant... I just decoded it that way.

Have no idea how you got that Napa, I had to run two searches to find it after making the mistake of running a yahoo search.

Eric, I know what you mean, I think the NY market seems to do pretty well with Bordeaux and Burgundy, but there are more than a few strong CA shops, many I can drive to pretty easily. Another reason I am where I'm at.

Eric - just in doing limited searching for Secret Santa I found that the NY shops seem to specialize in much different wines than many of my local ones do. We are heavy Cali for obvious reasons while I found the NY shops to be majorly lacking in some quality Ca wines. Maybe that was just a relaxed web based inventory but it was the impression I got nonetheless.

JT - She just mentioned acronyms once in another post. That's all. ;)
