Cool packaging -- Wine-Can

Posted by Mark Angelillo, Aug 5, 2008.

Just saw this via Notcot. Apart from the obvious name...

It's pretty neat, design wise.

Awesome - it looks like it's perfect for sipping through a bendy-straw!

Now if they could only get some pesky investors and bring it to market.

Actually cans are nothing new. However, this particular design wines they ugly prize. Wines (and especially sparkling wines) have been marketed in cans for a while now:

I'll only drink out of those if Riedel makes me a crystal bendy straw .... kidding.

Mark - your original link's can looks awful:

its like a stubby German World War I grenade

@Philip ... too funny ... it does look like a grenade.

Or something that belongs in a NASCAR pit. Maybe this is how wine can break into the beer drinking racing demographic.

Those cans remind me of that nasty "cologne" that they market to teenage boys to assault the populace with.

@RBoulanger The sofia minis come with a hot pink bendy straw! They are great to sneak into things like Shakespeare in the Park.

I agree with Adam - the can is decidedly automotive. It looks like a bogus fuel additive that you'd find in an auto parts store.

@Rachel - Are they cracking down on bottles at Shakespeare in the Park? Sofia minis also look like they would fit nicely and stealthily in inner jacket pockets.

@RBoulanger and Adam ... guys, c'mon now, NASCAR? There isn't nearly enough color and logos for it to be something out of NASCAR. Through on a Viagra sticker, maybe some M&Ms and Dewalt sticker and then it would be NASCAR. If we are going to push automotive, I'd say it is more F1 than NASCAR. :-)

@Rachel and RBoulanger ... a brown paper bag works great to hide any evidence. :-)

Heh. I think it's a cool design. All brushed metal with a racing stripe.

And the opener is pretty cool looking -- certainly better than your standard run of the mill tab.

@RBoulanger -- inner jacket pockets? Or affixed to the inside of a trenchcoat for stealthy park merchants?

@RBoulanger The no glass policy does get enforced from time to time. :) Now if only I didn't have to get in line at 6AM for tickets.

I must admit that the sofia minis are pretty girly. I have no problems drinking them in public, but I just can't imagine John enjoying their utter hot pinkness. Perhaps this F1 inspired can is just the overly masculine answer to the overly feminine sofia mini.

Rachel - i still think you pull the pin on the 'grenade', chug it in 1, and then toss it over your shoulder and walk away from the resulting explosion...

AXE brand Red and White. Drink enough of them, and you may even like the aroma of our cologne....... PeeYoo......

I am sure skulling wine in one go would cause something that felt very much like explosion in your head the next morning (if not the same night).

@RachelNYC - yeah, Sophia is certainly targeteed at the girly clubby crowd. Tiny pink can with a bendy straw = not too manly
