Cooking with The Prisoner

Posted by kimkat, Apr 12, 2009.

I have a bottle of 2006 Orin Swift The Prisoner. I would like to get some pairing suggestions, especially from those who have really enjoyed this wine with a certain dish. I don't care what course (appetizer, dessert, etc). Thanks!

Hmmmm...this is a hard one as The Prisoner is a big wine (taste-wise). I usually don't pair it up with complex dishes. I usually drink a glass with a sliver of Manchego cheese & whole grain crackers. However, a nice ragout or Spaghetti Bolognese (with lots of meat) is great. Another option is grilled ribeye marinated in black truffle oil, salt and pepper. Asparagus on the side. Keep it simple:).... Bon appetit.
I hope this helps.

That helps a lot. I just bought some black truffle oil, so I think I will try that. Thank so much!

I've only tried the 2004, but wrote about it here: http://www.snooth.com/wine/orin-swi...

Its a decent wine, although not cheap at $30. I recall that it was big, spicy, hot and licorice like. For that you need something big to pair with it - bbq, peppered steak or another big meat dish would all work well.
