Clo Wine Bar + Shop

Posted by Sung, Aug 21, 2008.

Went to Clo last night with my friend Sherry, a fellow Snoothie. It's the new "Minority Report" like Wine Bar that's located on the 4th floor of the Time Warner Shopping Mall in Columbus Circle.

It was a pretty neat set up. One long touch screen table that allows you to search for the wines they have on display. I unfortunately found the touch screen a little skittish, however, I did notice a guy behind me being able to use it seemlessly. Oh well.

Bottles of wine are displayed behind glass windows with a spout hanging out in front of each bottle. There were separate sections for each group of wines, however, I wasn't sure what the different categories were supposed to be.

Anyway, you get a card from the register that you'd insert into a slot which will total up the dollar amount of what you're drinking. The wines ranged from around $5 for a 2oz shot to almost $50 for the same amount. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I got a good vibe from everyone in there.

Pretty neat place overall. I had a nice time trying out a bunch of different wines. My favorite of the evening was a Shafer 2005 Merlot.

After speaking with the owner, phase two of this project would allow you to purchase a bottle of the wine that you sampled and liked. Also, in the coming weeks, they will be serving small foods to accompany the wines.

So, if you're ever at the Time Warner Mall and you got sick of shopping around and want to take a break, I think Clo would be a fun and interesting stop to make.

The UK version is a little more retro. Cynthia's Bar, which features a Barbarella-robot style bartender look like this:

LOL, that robot is hilarious. It reminds me of Rosie the Robot from the Jetsons.

Sounds dangerous. The one I have been to, you put money on a card and when it runs out you either put more on or are done. This one sounds more like using a credit card you have to pay at the end - I could get in a lot of trouble with that!

You can actually do it both days, i.e., put money on the card and just use what's allocated on the card, or you can keep an open card and pay the tab at the end. So, it's up to you...thankfully you can make that decision before you start drinking while you still have your head together. :-)

Note to self: Go to Clo earlier in the evening.
