Chateau St Michelle Columbia Valley Riesling 2006

Details for Chateau Ste Michelle Riesling Columbia Valley

This is perhaps the largest volume Riesling in the world and with just cause.

Peaches, Apricots and Honey shine in this sweet Riesling.

Although mass-produced by our friends at the Chateau, this particular vintage showcases the highlights of the Washington state Riesling grape in its prime. Grown in the same locale as Washington state Peaches and Aprictos, this white finishes rather sweet but pleasing and very approachable.

Over the past 2-3 years the stone fruit aromatics have slowly faded, leading to a slight honeysuckle and sugarcane zip.

Subsequent vintages surprisingly show more of a mineral and bitter almond note yet still feature the stonefruit way upfront.

I notice that I havent reviewed the 06, but certainly have reviews on Snooth for some of the other vintages. I've always been impressed by it, and by the quality for such a value price.

One of the best producers in the US IMO.

That is of course the umbrella name for the entire organization which includes Columbia Crest, etc., and that used to be called Stimson Lane But regardless of name, they consistently they produce high-volumes of really good wine at affordable prices. I wish more US wineries were able to do that. The Eroica is always solid and the basic line is one of the best values around.
