Read an interesting article in the newspaper about this Israeli wine (Castel Grand vin 2008), made in Eli Ben Zakens winery high in the Judaean Hills, It's a Cabernet Sauvignon arguably the best wine made in the country and was awarded 93 points by Robert Parker's The Wine Advocate.
It went on to state that most Israeli wine is fairly mediocre and was largely confined to the north of the country. Now Domaine du Castel is among dozens of small wineries in the 'Haute Judee' as Ben Zaken calls the region on his labels, producing better quality wines.
Because of the small volumes produced a bottle of the widely praised Petit Castel 2008 sells for around $35. All his wines are also matured in French Oak barrels.
Anybody tried it ?

No, Spike, I'd never even heard of it. Any wine rated over 90, however, deserves respect.
I just noticed that you originally posted this 11 months ago.
Sharon, are you saying you paid $100 for it?

Israel's top wine. A great way to celebrate the holidays. A bit ripe for my palate in the few vintages that I've tried it but of its kind it is very good.
