Cabernet Virtual Tasting tonight at 9:30 EST

Posted by Gregory Dal Piaz, Nov 5, 2010.

I've started a new thread since the other is too damn long.

Wines I'll be tasting tonight include

2007 Jim Barry Cover Drive

2004 Penfolds Bin 407

2008 Chappellet Mountain Cuvee, would have much rather tried the 2007 again!

2006 Ormes de Pez

I'll be broadcasting on the uStream channel

http://www.ustream.tv/user/snooth

And maybe we can work out a better chat option as well.

See you all later.

My Bin 407 never showed up. I'm getting ready to leave work and have looked around NYC for a bottle but to no avail. I'll sub in something else.

Looking forward to it

The only US Cab I could get my hands on at a reasonable price[<AUD100] is a

02 Raymond Reserve Rutherford Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

My Cover Drive is an 08, the 07 worries me a bit because of the big frost in 07 but hopefully if comes up well for you

I like the 08, one of Pete's better in this brand

He named it after the vineyard in the Coonawarra

For the baseballers - a cover drive is a bit like a ground ball to right field

So far I have done

08 Cover Drive

03 Ormes

04 Bin 407

No Chappellet

Bin 407 is in very good form

The challenge is to get balance with underripe and overripe

If the grapes are too green then it is to stalky and too much in underripe almost eucalyptus in flavour

too ripe and you get too much in stewed plums and tar flavours

I still think that you can't make good wine without good fruit
