Original post by Bob Fyke, Dec 15, 2012.

Let's get together and share some great Sangiovese Grosso and dinner.

Where: Sojourn, 244 E79th St 10075

When: Thursday January 24th, 7:00PM

Theme: Brunello di Montalcino - Bring one bottle per person to share / compare / enjoy. We'll see what sub-themes develop.

Cost: Cost of the food, whatever we order from the menu, and a generous tip for the service.

Who: All are welcome. Let's limit to ten people, so everyone gets a pour of each wine.

Bob (Possible +1) 2000 Poggio di Sotto

Erica

Greg (Dal Piaz) - 1993 Biondi Santi Riserva

Regarding the Beaucastel off-line, I don't have any vintages for the vertical, but see ones I can source out there.

so for the beaucastel so far it's

Mike, Bob, Jim and myself, Brad Kane is also in. I'll round up some other likely suspects to see who else might be in.

Nice! I'm in NYC right now but somehow forgot to check this thread before I left so I didn't bring any wine from Europe. I will see what I can find in a wine shop - between now and then I will have been in LA so I can try to stop by K&L Merchants - love that store.

Might be a bit tight for me to make it by 6.30 as I land at Laguardia at 6.30... When does rush hour end? I guess I could just bring my bag and come straight over.

With my lack of planning and need to purchase something, I guess I won't have an old vintage to share, but the 2007 La Fortuna Brunello di Montalcino sounds interesting, though from that vintage there is lots to choose from. Maybe I'll hit UVA today and see if I can find a more "natural" Brunello to contribute width in our styles?

So wanted to source a Soldera, but can't find one under 320 bucks. And so sorry, I'm sure you all are worth it but I am a starving journalist! Went to UVA in Brooklyn but they had no interesting Brunello - did come home with a bottle of COS, some AA Badenhorst and Cornelissen though. We are starved for good natural wines in Sweden...

I'll continue to look around, but if I can't find a Brunello I can stand for - can I bring something else sangiovese-based of interest?

Erica,

Come straight with you bags and don't worry about bringing a wine. I'll have you covered, as long as you're not expecting a Soldera!

That is so sweet of you (or are you just negating the risk of getting a "natural" wine on the table? I know, I know... ;) )

Was checking w Clare if I could stop by the office to say hi today but seems short notice now - maybe on the 24th before I head out. Would be nice to say hi to everyone and perhaps see if I can start doing some decent writing for you.

Now, off to write a Brooklyn food guide for a Swedish mag, I should find a decent coffee shop for that!

When are you here in town? We should definitely arrange a visit to the office. We drink wine on fridays!

When do you start?? ;) I'm heading over to the west coast tomorrow (Utah, then LA and Ojai) but will be back for our dinner on the 24th and then head to Sweden the next day. Lots of flight hours clocked - you know the score. However, I don't depart from JFK until 6 PM on that Friday so maybe I could stop by around lunchtime?

OK, that sounds like a fine tentative plan! We can work on firming up the timing closer to the date.

Our reservation is made. Do we want to start at 7:00PM instead?

I am going to be out there for ZAP.

7pm start is better for me.

Beaucastel, I went out to my cellar and picked up what I could find yesterday 95-03, minus 2002. If anyone can bring any of those that would be great. I can just keep mine. Would love to add 04 and 05, if anyone has either please let me know otherwise I'll order them.

7 PM of course better for me - I'll possibly be a few minutes later than that anyways (and even providing the flight lands on time). But as I said, will hop in a cab and be there asap. I'm in Cali from the 17th-19th for some articles, hitting Ojai and LA. If anyone knows of anything fun going on, do let me know!

Excited to meet you all! How many are we now?
