Posted by Bob Fyke, Dec 15, 2012.

Let's get together and share some great Sangiovese Grosso and dinner.

Where: Sojourn, 244 E79th St 10075

When: Thursday January 24th, 7:00PM

Theme: Brunello di Montalcino - Bring one bottle per person to share / compare / enjoy. We'll see what sub-themes develop.

Cost: Cost of the food, whatever we order from the menu, and a generous tip for the service.

Who: All are welcome. Let's limit to ten people, so everyone gets a pour of each wine.

Bob (Possible +1) 2000 Poggio di Sotto

Erica

Greg (Dal Piaz) - 1993 Biondi Santi Riserva

My travel schedule starts up again, but looking at the wines Bob is offering us how could I say no?

Yes I know that's not the line-up. but oh if it was!

Would be painful to miss if multiple Soldera's were there...

Now we're gaining some momentum. Excellent! I probably won't be breaking out any Soldera, but I'm thinking Poggio di Sotto maybe. Then again, maybe I'll be inspired...

This sounds rather interesting. Maybe this could turn out to be something like the BREAKFAST CLUB...You know...different characters and personalities getting together not really knowing each other. In this case we're entering a restaurant instead of a high school library for kids on detention and enjoying good food and wine and getting to know each other and each others quirks, idiocyncrasies and wine phylosophy.

Hmm....... This could be the commencement of...... THE BRUNELLO CLUB.

In all seriousness this sounds interesting.

Hm, don't have much Brunello in my cellar but let me see what I can dig out. Would you otherwise make an exception for a good barolo?

I'll be in NYC for two-three days early Jan (7th-10th) and again for an evening end Jan (probably the 24th). If any of those dates could work, I'd be in!

Let's start talking dates.

Can we do January 24th, so Erica can join us?

I'm supposed to be in Spain then. Earlier would be much better.

I'm good on the 24th.

Since we're talking about drinking, anyone interested in some Chateauneuf, probably a Beaucastel vertical, on Monday the 21st?

The likely location is the Upper East Side, but that's not written in stone.

Who else can make the 24th?

Busy week!

Venues?

I have 1993 Biondi Santi Riserva for Brunello.

As far as the Beaucastel tasting, I'm looking at something along the lines of 1995-2005. The goal is to look at all the Bo's that are maturing and under about $100.

Anybody have anything from that period?

Bravo for the Beaucastel vertical, always meant to do one of those, but in the end temptation got me and I broke it up. Tried the 98' a few months ago and it was still pretty damn tight.

OK, lots to cover here.

1) I will update the first post in the thread with details, attendees, wines, etc. Please let me know if it is missing anything.

2) Erica- I failed to respond to your question. The company is more important than the theme. If a Barolo is more convenient for you than by all means bring that.

3) Greg- Biondi Santi? Nice! Really applying the pressure. ; )

4) Venue- Sojourn Restaurant, 244 E79th St, 10075. Sammy & Johnny will take good care of us.

5) What time? 6:30? Too early? Let me know what works.

6) Getting excited. Hope more can join us!
