Briceland's NV Humboldt Brut Sparkling wins Double Gold (shameless self promo)

Posted by Andrew46, Jun 17, 2011.

A couple of days ago we received notice from the CA State Fair that our NV Humboldt Brut Sparkling won Double Gold, Best in State, and Best in North Coast Appellations.

We will be onsite pouring at the Wine Day Awards Ceremony on Friday, July 29 in Sacramento.

Hope to see you there!

Congratulation, Andrew.

Still haven't had a chance to taste any of your wine...

Thanks for the congrats and for your continued interest.  Yes, I know.  I have not solved the problem of getting them to you in Japan.  How often do you come to the US?  Perhaps I can have some waiting at your sister's house.  She is in the Bay Area, right?

Yeah, I have a couple of options in Oakland, but no plans at the moment to visit. Hard to imagine shipping can't take place. Why do I imagine it's just a question of who you query?

Perhaps.  Fedex says that if they have a liscensed party on both sides they will do it.  I will ask around and see if anyone else has experience with it.

@ dmcker,

It appears that you imagine correctly.  I posted on the other board and found at least one place that will ship for us.  Perhaps we should be in contact by email so I can send you a list of what we offer and you can tell me what you want.  Then, I can put together a quote including the shipping costs.  I can be reached @

More on this...

In the blind tasting at the local fair, they put in as a hard core ringer.  Veuve Clicquot.  Our brut still came out on top.  It is hard for me to believe.  Here is the story in the Eureka paper.

The state fair part of the story got covered by the Napa Valley Register here.

VC nonvintage is better than a number of other large houses' NV, but barely. Liked it when I started drinking champers at a tender age, though now slot it for picnic outings and the like, or Bellinis. Glad to hear you bested them, Andrew....

Thanks for your comments.  I know that VC is big.  The feedback I have been getting is that people who have less tasting experience than you (that would be almost everyone) seem to like and respect them.

I hope beating them in a blind tasting isn't like beating Kendal Jackson in the Oaked Chard category.

Congratulations!  How can I try some of your wine?

Reply by dmcker, Aug 22, 2011.

Oh, it's probably a little better than that. ;-)

Though I know a few people who love to rant about how much they dislike VC....

@ ScottLauraH - I will PM you.  Also, I can be reached at

@ dmcker - Glad to hear it.  I was worried after your last post.  BTW, I am waiting until the weather is better for shipping some wine to you.  Once it cools off here, I will be in touch.
