Birthday gift for mom's 50th

Posted by mtlzack, Nov 16, 2012.

For my mother's 50th birthday I was thinking about getting her a bottle of wine from the year she was born (1953). My two siblings and I were thinking about splitting this gift, but we are unsure about price. How much would we expect to pay for a bottle from the 1953 vintage, for someone who appreciates good wine but isn't an avid collector?

Sorry Zack, but your post is a tad confusing.  Was your mother born in 1953 and you are trying to plan a gift for her 60th birthday, or, as your title suggests, you are planning for her 50th birthday in 2013, which makes her birth year 1963?

We don't want you to put in a lot of effort (and, possibly, significant dinero) and then find out that you made a 10 year mistake.

Oops, my bad. I made a typo. I meant 60!

Do yourselves and your Mom a favor and buy her 60 bottles of something current. You'll likely save money and she will actually get to drink the wine and enjoy it.

That's a pretty cool idea. Get Mom hammered on her birthday!

Yeah... you're gonna have to buy her something more current.  What type of wine does she like?
